At age 37 I really thought I was done with all gynecologists, I gave up hope of all physicians, and with the idea of having a family after two painful miscarriages.
One day however, I went on a visit with a family member to a reproductive endocrinologist named Dr Tomer Singer and after seeing how he was with them I finally arranged to see him myself. It truly was the greatest decision I've ever made. He's not just an incredible doctor but he's an amazing, and caring human being first. He listened to me, he ran tests, and after I expressed to him the pain I was having he said it appeared to be my endometriosis so before we start a cycle of IVF I should see Dr Seckin.
I have followed Dr Seckin's career since Padma Lakshmi came out with her story about endometriosis, and her ability to have a child all because of this extraordinary doctor. Dr Singer set everything up and I went to see this wonderful surgeon. What can I say about Dr Seckin? He knew what I felt before I even told him. He listened to me and explained endometriosis in depth. He believed my pain. He gave me hope but was honest and straightforward from day one. He has a wonderful staff, his great nurse Lucy held my hand when the pain was so bad. His entire team is incredible. They cover every aspect of this disease from the every physical aspect to even the psychological aspects.
I had excision surgery two weeks ago and I already have less pain than before my surgery and I am still healing. He is everything you want in a surgeon; the knowledge, the expertise, the confidence, the skills, the precision, the compassion. I do not have enough words to say how thankful I am to him. Dr Seckin is my hero. I wouldn't trust anyone but him to operate on me. He removed a great deal of endo from my ovaries, to my uterus, to my bladder, and bowels. he removed it. Although, I lost a tube which was actually doing more harm than good Dr Seckin managed to give me back my hope of having a family and believing once more in great physicians. How do you ever thank someone like this? Someone who took my pain and restored my dream of having a child? I do by thanking him and telling women my story. I thank him for helping me, helping the thousands of women he has treated, and by his constant advocacy for women that are suffering in silence. Dr Seckin and The endometriosis foundation of America do an remarkable act of informing, educating, and raising awareness for this terrible debilitating disease. Thank you Dr Seckin I am and will forever be indebted to you. I will never stop spreading awareness for endometriosis. No one should ever suffer in silence. No one should ever be ignored and turned away because a disease is not visible. Every woman should have the option of carrying their own child.

Painful periods are not normal. There is NO cure for endometriosis. However, we are stronger than this disease. It will never define who I am, it stole way too much of my life already. And lastly, if you feel something is wrong keep searching for the answer until you get it. Never give up hope because there are wonderful doctors out there like Dr Seckin.
Dr Seckin turns down no one! It's sad to think that people write negative comments bc he has never turned any woman down that needs his help. He loves what he does and it shows!!!! Thank you Dr Seckin!!

In January 2023, I had my third endometriosis surgery. It was my first one with Dr. Tamer Seckin and Dr. Amanda Chu at Seckin Endometriosis Center, which means it was also my first *actual* endometriosis excision surgery. I also had a fibroid removed (for the second time.) I've read reviews that say "Dr. Seckin and Dr. Chu saved my life," and perhaps the person reading this has read some of those reviews, too. Well, I'm here to - proudly, gratefully - add my voice to be among the patients who shares with you how Dr. Amanda Chu and Dr. Tamer Seckin truly saved my life. When I first went to The Seckin Endometriosis Center, I was in rough shape from a couple of other medical issues, of which endo and a fibroid were not helping. On my first consult with Dr. Seckin, we sat in his welcoming office and after going over and validating all of my symptoms, he asked: "So. Why are you here?" I said, "Because I heard you were the best." He said "OK. But why are YOU here?" "I want my life back." The words just came out. It sounded weird to say out loud. It sounded cliche`. But it was true. In my 30s, all but an official shut-in, tied to the bed and bathroom, most of the month because of my body (Bed, Bath, but no beyond!) Unable to really hold down work or a social life or go outside much, because for every rare good day, I had 28 bad ones. I'm mentioning only a small part of what I was going through so as to keep this brief, and somethings are just too painful to share, but also so it's understood what I mean when I say: they saved my life. I wasn't living. I was barely functioning. Their care and expertise gave my life back to me and taught me how to keep feeling better. Before I could be healthy enough to undergo my endo surgery, I had to take care of those other medical issues first. Dr. Seckin checked in on me the whole way. When I would have procedures done with other surgeons and doctors to treat those other issues, Dr. Seckin and Dr. Chu went the extra mile through their busy and full schedules, and checked in on me about those procedures. They made sure I was OK, asked me for updates, and genuinely received them. They are in this with you and will try to help you with every resource they have. I've never met a more caring team, and as with anyone with endo knows, sometimes you meet with a LOT of different doctors and care teams. Dr. Seckin taught me how to really advocate for myself. Dr. Chu leads by example on listening so attentively and taught me I had been normalizing pain, and that I wasn't alone in that. I hadn't even realized that's what I'd been doing all these years and I realized how it had lead to me getting worse and worse before I saw them. I have a hard time writing this because there was some legit trauma endured from other doctors I visited over the years, the least of which was learning my ovary didn't need to be removed by a previous surgeon, it could have been preserved...but the hope, encouragement, VALIDATION, KNOWLEDGE, and ADVOCACY that Dr. Seckin and Dr. Chu exhibit and have taught me, my unending gratitude to them, and the fact that they did indeed give me my life back, has me here a little over a year after my surgery sharing this with you. (And writing run on sentences! lol) Truly. They let me cry, made me laugh, taught me new things about myself and this disease, held space for me, looked me in my eyes, humanized me, believed me, assured me, told me things I should be informed about when it comes to my own body. All of this is done with respect, care, support, the greatest expertise and skill in the field, compassion, understanding, and most importantly, done WITH YOU. They gave me validation and agency, which is something I don't feel I often have in medical offices, especially as a woman of color with endometriosis. The pre-care, surgery, and aftercare involvement and belief in me was unlike any other doctors I've had. Talking about this can be scary, but it's only right to share it to help others, and to let the team know how thankful I am. I'm forever grateful and finally feel like I have ownership over this chronic illness. Thank You, Thank You, Thank You: Dr. Chu, Dr. Seckin, Kim, Clare and the entire team at Seckin Endometriosis Center. To fellow folks enduring endo, you deserve to be cared for the way the team at Seckin Endometriosis Center cares for its patients. I wish you the best!

In Nov 23 I had endo surgery with Dr. Seckin and his team and cannot say enough good things about him. I initially reached out to him in January 2022. Some of his staff were not very helpful at that time, but those members have moved on, and his entire staff is top notch at this point! After initial video consults, and flying to NY to meet him in Nov 2022, I spent a year working with my insurance and his billing team to obtain "Gap Coverage", which is available to insured people when their insurance plan has no one within their network who can perform the needed treatment. I had three previous surgeries, with well-intentioned surgeons who all used more common techniques and procedures that are known by specialists to exacerbate the disease, such as ablation. With the insurance approval, we were scheduling the date, when it became apparent I had another issue with a severely redundant colon. Dr. Seckin stopped everything, and coordinated with his team to bring on an additional colorectal surgeon who was in my network, and they all went above and beyond to get my case evaluated in a timely way, and to coordinate surgery dates among all the surgeons to prevent me from having an additional surgery at a later date. I could not be more grateful for the skillful care I received, and the investment in patient care that I saw and experienced from his entire team and staff. I wish everyone with endometriosis had access to a surgeon like Dr. Seckin. It would prevent so many unnecessary repeat surgeries and help the 10% of women with endo move on with their lives. His passion is educating his patients and he provides substantial resources in that effort. I Highly recommend Dr. Seckin.

This was my second endo surgery, but first with Dr. Seckin and Dr. Chu. They are hands down the most skilled, knowledgeable, and compassionate. The team was always available, helpful, and accommodating. I did so much research and there is no one else that does what they do at the same level. I had immediate relief after surgery for the first time and I will always be grateful to them.

The first red flag was that Dr. Seckin watched a soccer game while running our first appointment.

In our second appointment, he told me that he sensed fear in our first appointment. He said he was afraid of me. And said that we need to trust one another. This felt like emotional manipulation and gave me the heebie-jeebies.

Upon doing my exam, he said my cervix was tender. The comment felt odd to me then. Since then, I've learned that the cervix can be cut without anesthesia. Does it ever feel tender?

Finally, he said that my referring doctor never referred business to him. He has never seen the approach at her practice work. But she did refer me to him.

I cannot express enough thanks to Dr. Seckin, Dr. Goldstein and Dr. Chu. If you have Endometriosis, please read this review. There are a few critical things I must explain. Dr. Seckin’s office is the ONLY solution. There are so many doctors that will say they have a solution, but the only way to take control of this disease is with the Dr Seckin team. They understand endometriosis best because they have dedicated their professions to Endo. This isn't some gynecologist office who claims to do excision surgery, while doing all other gynecology tasks. After going through two failed surgeries, I know. I finally went to Seckin and the team and expertise is like no other. My surgery was perfect. They left no stone unturned. They worked together as a team, so the surgery was efficient, precise and thorough. After surgery the care was impeccable. Offering real solutions for continuing care, like no one else. Where can you go and get the expertise and care of three surgeons? Do not settle!

Dr. Seckin is the most incredible doctor I have worked with in my entire life. At first I couldn't believe it -- a male doctor, and a surgeon at that, who is also an EMPATH? Unbelievable. He is the first doctor who took my pelvic pain seriously. His consultation was one of the most rigorous intakes I've ever had in my life. He even had me undergo a separate psychiatric evaluation, AND he identified an ultra rare spinal disease in the base of my spine as the cause of much of my pelvic pain! He isn't even a neurosurgeon! In fact, he's better with pelvic neurology than top neurosurgeons in NYC. He took care of my endo expertly, and has helped me begin my journey towards healing my spinal condition. His level of care and commitment to treating women with endometriosis and pelvic pain is incomparable. I only wish doctors could be even half as dedicated and thorough as Dr. Seckin. If you have Endometriosis, you must consult him. Even though he is out of network and may be unaffordable for many, endometriosis and chronic pelvic pain is one of those diseases you have to attack with expertise. It will be one of the best investments you make in yourself in your life. I cannot recommend him more highly.

From day one, it was clear that Dr Seckin, Dr. Goldstein and the team at Seckin Endometriosis Center cares deeply about their patients. Unfortunately, that has not always been the case when dealing with years of endometriosis pain. I had a laparoscopy in 2015 where it was determined I had stage four endometriosis. I was able to conceive and have my baby boy- grateful! After I stopped nursing him, I started to get intense pain and bleeding in between periods. I had a hard time going to work as a Massage Therapist, playing with my son, being romantic with my husband and I could barely commit to having social plans because I never knew if my pelvic area would cooperate. It has been a long journey and I was ready to end the cycle of birth control, different doctors and opinions. I just couldn't imagine doing this for years to come.
In 2012 I learned about Dr. Seckin while doing some research. At the time, I was 28 and just began dating my now husband. I mentioned to him how great it would be to see a doctor like Seckin who specialized in endometriosis (before I was diagnosed) because I knew then something was wrong. Being that Dr. Seckin was in New York and probably didn't take my insurance (because I had none) it felt so out of reach and I never bothered to try to get an appointment.
It wasn't until a horrible endo attack in December 2020 that I thought "I am going to reach out to Dr. Seckin's office." At the time I had a surgery date for total hysterectomy and removal of my ovaries somewhere else. I panicked. I wanted this journey to end with Dr. Seckin as my doctor. I would do anything it took.
I got an online consultation, saved up for an in-person consult and my husband and I headed off for NYC to meet this doctor I only read about.
Instantly the team treated me with kindness and respect. They were so welcoming even though they didn't know if they would see me again. They were clearly there to help.
My husband and I met with Dr. Seckin and while I was nervous, he did his best to comfort me and really listened to what I had to say. That day I had an ultrasound and because we were traveling a distance to get there I was able to get into an MRI that day- pure luck.
Well, I did indeed have surgery with Seckin and Goldstein about six weeks later. Dr. Seckin removed 34 lesions from my pelvic area and lifted my bladder, removed my uterus and cleared the disease. Because I still have ovaries, I am not having any issues related to menopause. It took about 2 months to start feeling like myself again but recovery went smoothly.
The back and forth to hotels and appointments from Lancaster was not convenient but it sure was worth it.
I am 3 months post-op and I can already say it was the best decision of my life. I had a total hysterectomy at age 36. A surgery like this required me to have surgeons I could trust who have my best interest at heart- they did.
Ashley, Chanel, Danay were fabulous. Kim worked so hard to help me navigate insurance and they were transparent about cost and gave me time to make my decision to go through and pay out of pocket. I honestly can't say enough about this team. Just wonderful.
Thank you Dr. Seckin and Dr. Goldstein for taking care me. I am looking forward to a new life without chronic pelvic pain. I feel amazing already and hope to add years to my massage therapy practice.

In September 2020, my husband took me to the ER due to severe pain in my stomach and back while my left leg was going numb. I was so frightened as an international student who is all alone in the US. For the past two years, I was suffering from a strange pain in my left side of the abdomen that would attack me several times a day as well as nights. I remember my husband filling up hot water bottles several times during nights so that I could use them and get some relief and perhaps sleep for a few hours. I visited several specialists in Oklahoma where I used to study. They would just examine me, review my CT-Scan and MRI results and tell me that I had nothing to worry about and should do more stretching or take painkillers if the pain was persistent. I spent two years of my life clueless and in constant suffering.

Finally, when I moved to NC and had to go to the ER, the physician was able to properly read my CT-scan and told me that I had Endometriosis. It was the first time my husband and I heard the term, Endometriosis, and I was not sure how to react. I just knew that it should be something serious or I would not be in excruciating pain. The physician put me on Prednisone and Tramadol and I was discharged from the ER.

As an academic, I started searching and reading about Endometriosis. I was helpless as it sounded quite daunting. Most articles indicated severe menstrual pain with this condition, yet my periods were not hurting, at least not for the past three years, after I lost weight and went on a healthy diet. I was confused! I remembered having irregular or painful menstrual cycles as a teenager but the bleeding seemed to be normal and I did not have to excuse myself from social activities. However, other descriptions of the condition matched mine: painful intimacy, painful ovulation, constipation, and pencil-like stool. I was told by the ER doctor that the Endometriosis had to have spread to my bowel as well as my sciatica. I had to make sure! So I visited two separate local endometriosis centers to seek help. My visits to the two endometriosis centers were anything but helpful. The laparoscopic surgeons barely examined me. They listened to my symptoms and made up their mind: I had to take pain killers until they do laparoscopic surgery to either remove my ovaries and/or my uterus. They did not order any sort of testing and simply made that suggestion to a 32-year-old woman. At first, I did not want to question their suggestion, but then when I asked them about the bowel pain and if that pain would go away, they both said that no endometriosis surgeon could help you with that and you would still have to endure the bowel and back pain even when your uterus is removed! It just did not make sense to me! How could that be possible?! Luckily, I was still on prednison so I had some pain-free time that would allow me to do research. I began reading articles on endofound.org for which I am very grateful. I learned that Endometriosis is not the center of research in the US and I realized that every 1 in 10 females is suffering from this condition, yet research in this area has remained underfunded because it deals with women's monthly pain which is probably taboo!
I highly recommend you watch this video:

I am so grateful that God guided my steps to Dr. Tamer Seckin's office. The first time my husband and I met him, I was treated with utmost respect and love. He was extremely caring, honest, and meticulous. I had my old CT scans and MRIs with me, yet he suggested that I had to take different ones. I always trust my intuition and knew I was in good hands. He did a transvaginal ultrasound and told me that my ovaries were healthy while the other two surgeons suggested that they should remove my ovaries without doing any sort of ultrasound! If you are reading this review and you care about your well-being, please do not trust a surgeon just because they are sitting in a shiny office and wearing a white uniform. Try to do your own research and find the most caring surgeon who is not committed to insurance companies and who actually cares about your life.

A month later, Dr. Seckin had a cancellation and I was contacted by his wonderful and unbelievably professional team. I was scheduled for laparoscopic surgery. I flew to NYC a week before the surgery to do MRI, as well as CT scan, and to allow enough time for their pre-operation measurements. During that week, I had the pleasure of meeting Dr. Goldstein. Meeting her made me even more confident in my decision and gave me a good night's sleep before the surgery. I was scheduled for a 6:30 AM surgery! It was a complicated surgery! Dr. Seckin and Dr. Goldsetein removed over 35 lesions. I was discharged the following day and stayed in NYC for my post-operation appointment. I knew I had a difficult surgery but I could not be more thankful to God for saving my life quality through Drs. Seckin and Goldstein's hands.

This book is for the “Endo Warriors,” women determined to let the world know their stories so that every woman with this disease—from the thirteen-year-old girl who is being told that her pain is “part of becoming a woman” to the woman who has been misdiagnosed for decades—knows she is not alone. Yes, her pain is real. No, she is not crazy. Yes, there is hope.
