Dr. Gathe has been my physician since 1996, which is almost all of my adult life. He has the best bedside manner of any physician I’ve ever seen, including every specialist I’ve had over the last 20 years. He is an expert in infectious diseases, and he has also been featured in the news many times throughout the COVID pandemic. I feel that Dr, Gathe is an extension of my family, and his compassionate care and guidance has been the cornerstone of living a happy and healthy life. If you are looking for a doctor board-certified in internal medicine, infectious diseases, or oncology, then Dr. Gathe is the one to see.

Dr. Gathe himself is a very good doctor. But in my 30 years of treatment for HIV I have never encountered a staff as incompetent, unqualified or as outright rude as those who work in his office.

This Dr was more concerned w/ getting me onto an HIV med study so that my visits to see him would be paid for than he was in me. I explained to him it felt like I had a hole in my esophagus, I was seeing FLOATERS in my vision, showed him the bumps on my chest and arm. He gave me a sample for heartburn medication and script for $90 antifungal cream. It turned out to be CMV. I ended up having CMV Retinitis which caused me to go almost completely blind. Had he taken the time to diagnose me correctly I might not have lost my sight. CMV is very common among HIV patients with low cd4 counts. As an HIV "SPECIALIST" he should have seen what was going on with me. The Staff was entirely black and they all seemed to be in a very bad mood. They were all rude to me from the front office manager who barked: "And how do you plan to pay for this $340 Dr visit?" "Cash... are hundreds ok?" was my response. Or the person who drew my blood, on the phone arguing that she did know how to do her job. oh boy!
