I went in for my annual mammogram and ultrasound screening. After the exam I was told I could wait in the lounge area. Dr. Frankel came in to tell me they don't do ultrasound screenings any longer at this hospital. He questioned why it was ordered in the first place. I explained my major risk factors, which were also listed on the script. He told me that he didn't believe I needed it because it can tend to do more harm than good in terms of leading to additional testing not to mention the amount of time it takes a radiologist to read. At this point other patients entered the lounge and he continues talking about my results. He ends the conversation by saying in his opinion, I should get a 3D mammogram. I responded that it was too late at this point since my exam was already over. It has to be done in conjunction with the mammogram, correct. He did not respond. I obtained a copy of my report and he stated that I declined the 3D imaging. It was not his place to question the doctor's order nor make me feel like I had to justify the procedure. It was also very unprofessional to discuss my results in front of other patients not to mention misrepresenting my refusal of the 3D imaging. They had the scripts and should have told me in the very beginning that they no longer do the ultrasound screenings and offered me the option of 3D at that point.
