Dr. Sauer has been very flexible with my treatment over the past several months. He saw that my condition qualified for surgery at my first visit, but he recommended that I make a follow up appointment after my first visit to consider my options. He was very forth-coming about his uncertainty whether the surgery would indeed cure my pain. I have fibromyalgia, which is a huge curve ball in any surgical recovery, and he accounted for that in his estimate of the outcome for me. If anything, we were extremely conservative (bunion and bone spurs) in treatment, which I was comfortable with because surgery on my hand had gone very badly years ago. He makes eye contact with me, called me personally the night before the surgery to confirm that I wanted to proceed, and stopped by before my prep to say hello and review the procedure again. We discussed possible risks openly, no slick doc kind of pressure to have a surgery done. He explained about where, why, and how he would be making the incision, and made it clear that he does not take risks of making more than one incision.
I can see where he could make a stoic impression on someone - he doesn't really do much small talk, but I experienced him as greatly concerned for me and my health. He told me that he would do everything that needed to be done correctly to make the toe the best it could be with the moderate arthritis that was there, but he wasn't certain that doing so would be my quick fix for the levels of pain I'd been having over 6 months. I don't like anyone selling me something when it comes to my health. I just want an honest opinion from the highest level of skill a doc has. My recovery is not complete yet, but I'm very happy to have had Dr. Sauer help me through this latest chronic pain condition.

I did get a second opinion from another doctor who had a completely different personality, but came to the same conclusions. When I told a person working in the network that I had done that, s/he told me that Dr. Sauer is the preferred doctor among the doctors. I went with Dr. Sauer because he was recommended first, and most noted for his excellent surgical skills. I recommend him highly and would go to him again for the other foot.

I don't understand all the negative comments about dr. Sauer. I am recovering from a rare ankle disorder and he diagnosed it right away and did the correct surgical procedure needed. So far it is a pleasure having a dr like him.

The office staff was personable The physician, Scott Sauer needs etiquette classes. He has no bedside manner. He was rude, abrupt, argumentative and treated me like a child. I would never recommend him to any one who needed an Orthopedic Surgeon. It is a shame that Dr. Meade, an excellent doctor is affiliated with this group. I should have known when I saw that Dr. Scarpino who is affiliated with this group was the physician who badly messed up my mother's hip replacement, several years ago, I should have known better. This man left the room because he became angry with me because I called him on his arrogance. He did not have proper information on my chart and had me using a Low Tide Cam Walker instead of a Airsport Brace and then yelled at me for not wearing it in sub-zero temperatures. I was not about to leave the house with a slippery airsport brace on after fracturing my ankle. I will not return. If I have more problems with my ankle, he will have a law suit on his hands.

oh my god I ABSOLUTELY love this man. After having two previous surgeries on my foot ( the first one being ****ed by a surgeon who I will not name) doctors refused to help me, until Dr. Sauer came along. He took an XRAY and a MRI of my foot and by the time my next visit came around we had a plan on how we were going to fix this problem surgically, we discussed many options but and wanted to only fix the problem not go in there and "fix" things that nothing wrong with them ( what happened with the past two surgeries). The only complaint I have about this doctor is that for my insurance i had to wait until he had a day open at the hospital that accepted my insurance because the staff didnt want him driving all over to different hospital locations which is understandable, but waiting a month with a ruptured tendon that i have been walking on for over a year was kind of painful. But im post op now having no problems and very THANKFUL that i went to such a WONDERFUL surgeon!!

Do not waste your time seeing this Doctor! After 9 months of seeing Dr.Sauer and still in terrible foot pain,on my last visit I was given an x-ray,steroid cream and sent home with no further treatment. So glad that I followed up with a Foot/Ankle Surgeon elsewhere.I was given a MRI that determined my foot was torn and sprained.
