I have been with Dr. Weiner since birth. He has been nothing but help. He knows my history and knows how to go about talking to me and explaining things. He never let's me leave feeling unsure of my condition or scared of what will happen next.

So my wife and I have a daughter with major heart & vascular issues(let's just say she has many aneurysms). Today, we were at CHOC(Mission Viejo) and for the first time, I met Dr. Weiner. He was slightly late, but only because he had spent and hour+ reading the complete history of our daughter's cardiatric issues and other ailments, so he could analyze everything and give us his well educated feedback.
I'd heard Dr. Weiner is direct, and some touchy-feels types may not like this. Well, those fragile types need to wake up and take control of their own destiny.
My wife & I speak with medical experts like Dr. Weiner to help solve my daughter's very serious heart and neurological ailments - not sit down for a kumbaya.
Dr. Weiner was tremendous. He realized my wife & I are well educated and know more about our daughters rare disease than many doctors(because we researched and taught ourselves!!!), and so he spoke at our level(not all was easy to hear - let's get real people), but he gave us suggestedk options and ideas(where last night a neurologist delivered nothing...), and now we have a plan of attack.
THIS is what doctors and specialists are for. They are not here to make us feel a false sense of hope - they are here to 'try' to solve the root cause of problems and deliver solutions or suggestions.
Parents need to step-up, get educated, and help the process. NOT sit back and blame a doctor when something goes wrong.
The human body is often unpredictable and confusing. In cases like my daughter's, it's so rare no one has solid, proven answers... anywhere in the world.
What Dr. Weiner provided today was stellar. I was extremely impressed with his domain expertise and ability to 'think out of the box'.
He's given us hope, and a direction to follow(which my wife and I are leading!). We are not sitting back waiting to be taken care of like many Americans seem to do these days.
The medical field needs more 'Dr. Weiner's' - medical specialists who are not too arrogant to step-back, reassess, recognize perhaps a new approach is warranted, clearly explain to 'educated' parents, and start a process... and be direct & concise.

All of the doctors are excellent, super thourough and gentle with my daughter who is 15. Our children are so precious. I highly recommend the sports screening program for all children. You never know what you are going to find. For my daughter, who was a total athlete it is so important to know what you are up against. It is so sad to see these families loose their highschoolers during sports play and practice. Bet to be safe that sorry. It is a small price to pay for the life of a child.
