Good Bye Dr. Smith. You saved my life from all the other Drs that kept filling me with meds that almost killed me. I will never forget you. I have been seeing you since the 90s when I was wasting away. I was only 40. You told me to throw the quart size bag of meds I brought in away. And my life improved weekly. You were at Good Sam at the time. Your staff was wonderful and your wife too. You called me at home to check on me, and What Doctor would even do that today. WHAT A LOSS FOR OHSU AND PORTLAND OR. Hope you enjoy your retirement, you deserve it. I will never go back to OHSU for eliminating the BEST DOCTOR in the hospital.

He is a 10 out of 10 (if you leave out the office, college, wife/nurse & staff he has to put up with! Their narcissistic & greedy/selfish attitudes bring his ratings down...nothing about him except letting them force him into "rules they make up to make $$$" vs health &care for patients that he wants to give!) Dr. Smith does run late only because he TAKES TIME &LISTENS 100%! He takes hard to diagnose & treat seizure ptnts, those that others send to a psychiatrist saying "its all in their heads"..IT IS...CALLED EPILEPSY! I was misdiagnosed 26 yrs & starting to believe it was "my fault" & "I was nuts"...till I got him & he stood behind me feeling a "new type of seizure" was being misdiagnosed. 13 other Dr.s on the team called him nuts for standing up for hundreds of us.Then myself & others allowed our brains to be entered & they found not only a "new" type of seizure, but one resistant to meds..now the most common type "complex partial tempro-lobe"! Other Drs &even hospitals still miss it...but he listened to his patients & believed they were not nuts, but the misdiagnoses & "HOPELESS, YOUR FAULT" ATTITUDE OF DRS & HOSPITALS WERE THE PROBLEM!!! THEY SHUNNED HIM..BUT NOT HIS PATIENTS! !! WE LOVED HIM!! He moved to OHSU & again other jealous drs made him change his wonderful ways "to fit the rules" ("make money, not correct diagnosis") & things went down from there! He talked retirement for the first time. He loved his job & patients...Sad...hoped he could teach love & compassion instead of the narcissistic attitude so many have today! A 2000 yr old disease & so many still fear us like in the Bible! It could be cured by now if more had his old attitude! Wished the old Dr Smith would return (leaving his wife/nurse at home=another noose w/weights on his neck!) He cares!! RARE, ESP FOR NEUROLOGY/EPILEPSY! {Only 3 real seizure drs left in Or, 1 just started. Many others either left in 2014 due to $$$$$...or retired! Not allot to choose from if your a difficult to control case! SAD, GOOD LUCK LOOKING FOR A NEW SMITH!)

I saw Dr Brewster Smith in 1999. I had a first ever seizure and he was the only appointment my family could schedule. In short time. What a shame. He looked at my test results and said I had an "angry EEG" he put me on 800 milligrams of Tegretol and I was like a zombie. When I tried to discuss birth control options with him he shamed me and made me feel like a bad person. It was probably the worst doctor experience ever. Fortunately I met Dr. So, the chief neurologist at OHSU not long after. He found the diagnosis of "angry" EEG to be off base, he lowered my Tegretol to 150mg and I was on it for less than a year. Dr. So treated me like a human being and I recovered rapidly and have never had another seizure.

If you don’t know Dr. Smith he is the man, he saved my life. At 16 I had a football accident that left me with Grand Mal seizures, I saw a neurologist and he prescribed me Phenobarbital, every time I had a seizure he would up the dosage until I was walking zombie, I was introduced to Dr S who put me on Depokote which helped control my seizures and came down to petit mal but being young & dumb doing drugs & alcohol I continued to have seizures until 30 where Dr S sat me down and said do you want to continue to party & die or live. I made a pack never to experience again the biting of the tongue, blood swallowing, vomiting, the horrendous headaches & listen to Dr S I am now 25 years seizure free. and very fortunate today, with the combination of Dr S sticking beside me, continually monitoring me I over came some serious odds. If anybody out there has any questions about Dr. Smith who will give you 110% I would be more than honored to answer your questions ritcey@clearwire.net

I saw Dr. Smith while I lived in Portland before I moved to Eugene. He was the ONLY Dr. who treated my Epilepsy and helped me get it under control with right medicine and I have a new life. Dr. Smith has a 110% bed side manner, and extensive neurology background. Only Dr. I have EVER been to treat the disease and listen and care for his patient. I've recommended him to people who are looking for help. He works with and for his patients. I only wish I was still in Portland so I could still see him.The staff was always courteous and helpful and very rarely was he late. Roxanne T. Wodtli --bzcybergal@yahoo.com

Dr Smith has a huge heart and you can tell he cares about all his patients. He told me he was "semi-retiring". He cared about me so much that he was returning my phone message at 8:30pm. I'm not too sure if I can believe that semi-retirement statement, but if he didn't care as much as he does, he would have waited until the next business day or had his nurse call me back to relay a message on to me. I've been so happy with him throughout the years I've been going to him and am grateful to find a good hearted Dr like him. Those are far and few between

The most knowlegable, understanding doctor I have ever gone to, in his field of Neurology and Epilepsy,I feel that is a very important attribute, that I know I appreciate greatly. He will always take any amount of time needed to discuss any concerns.
