RP Surgery Sept 2022 after decision and conversation with Dr Joseph and radiation oncologist as second opinion. Dr. Joseph simply very soft spoken and masks add another dimension to deal with. Bedside…Dr Joseph..could use a bit of polish….don’t look for long conversation but all questions answered. Three month follow up with .02 PSA reading 6.1 early summer started the parade to Rochester. Did not get all the cancer and as disappointing as that is it’s not uncommon. Tries very hard to spare nerves …90 day follow ups and PSA TEST in my future. ED and incontinence with me..how long..could easily be a year. 74 years old…not a plus with this kind of medical need.

Chronically late, never makes eye contact, is answering questions while looking at the computer. Poor communication skills. Sent off to radiologist who really explained what Joseph should have done on the surgical side. My impression was he expects patients to just trust him. There is a lot at stake in doing that. Only proceeded with surgery with him because of external research about him. Has his PA deal with pre-surgical discussion which is pretty basic for anyone that does any level of research. She couldn't answer my real questions. He comes in and starts staring at the computer looking at why I was asking these questions, was vague in his answers, yawned 4 times in my pre-surgical appointment. He's successful but frankly I put up with him. Post surgery appointments are of little value, except he can bill $375. Clearly not use to a patient that wants any level of info. Those days are gone where it's simply "trust the dr". Get with the times and sharpen your communication skills, be prepared for you patient visits especially when people are clearly informed. It is ok not to have a specific answer but walk people through what you will doing to ensure best outcome and a bit about what you are thinking. Based on all my appointments with him, I expected that he wouldn't even know my name when he showed up for surgery. Not sure how he became chief at UofR

Jerk. Threw papers at me to review. Stated he was busy and would come back. 40 minutes later the nurse came in and asked why I was still here. Doctor never came back, overheard him telling the nurse he was too busy

Following up on what I submitted on January 14, 2014. I became frustrated and disillusioned with Dr. Joseph and his staff. The solutions he suggested to use to enhance the rehabilitation of my ED that were caused by the surgery did nothing. After seeing a different Urologist, I found out why those suggested solutions did not work. Only partial nerve sparing was achieved during the surgery. This second doctor also told me the injections he would prescribe should have started much earlier. These injections (Edex, aka Caverjet) are the only way I am able to achieve an erection that works for me and my girlfriend. For the person that shared their experience that took place thirteen years earlier... I guess things have changed

Every test took 2-3 weeks to schedule, then 2 weeks more for results. Stage IV prostate cancer needs a faster response than this. A few on his staff acted like they were doing us a favor arranging tests and appointments, but that is actually the definition of their jobs, so why the attitude? Gave Lupron injection without initiating Casodex. Only treatment offered was the Lupron, said they do not operate on Stage IV. We went out of state for treatment.

I am amazed at some of the comments regarding this EXCELLENT doctor. The negatives could be attributed to the first surgeon I had been "assigned," at Highland, but not to Dr Joseph. My first consultation was with him AFTER HOURS and we talked for at least an hour, during which time he explained the pros and cons of the robotic surgery and suggested I give careful thought to leaving the practice of Dr Cos. But the decision was clear: he had already explained things more clearly and had taken more time with me than the other doctor had during the previous 1.5 years. My surgery went very well and follow-ups have always been punctual and thorough. I am convinced that there are no better than he and his staff. I have found everyone in the practice to be available even on an emergency-need basis...during all the past 13 years since my surgery!

Dr Joseph was communicative and a bit of salesman initially. He seemed very caring and confident about his ability to remove the cancer and spare the nerves that affect continence and erectile functions. The cancer had not spread outside my prostate and I had no problems with those functions prior to the surgery. Three months after the surgery I mentioned I was having issues with incontinence and ED at a follow up visit with the doctor... I didn't notice the communication, caring and confidence he exhibited earlier. My incontinence slowly improved. After no results from a "vacuum constriction device" & two different oral medications for ED, I will soon see a different Urologist to help me achieve an erection via a needle injection. While Dr Joseph said I have not been patient enough, guys that had this surgery performed by other surgeons told me they had short-lived problems with incontinence or ED. My trust and hope is so low, I may opt for a penile implant. Caveat emptor
