Went to have my appointment with Dr. Jacobsen who has been my gynecologist for many, many years. Was treated VERY rudely by the secretary who was checking me in. First off, she said there was no previous record of my insurance. I have been on UPMC for Life since 2011 and before that by Highmark from my position with Westmoreland County. When I told her I have the same insurance, she opened my chart and showed me a blank page indicating that I was a liar. Then, I told her that I get a pap smear from the doctor, and she opened the same file folder and showed me another blank page & said I never get a pap smear there. She told me I had a total hysterectomy and didn't need one and never had one. I guess she considers herself my doctor as she knows what my doctor does for me at all my appointments. Why do I need to see Dr. Jacobsen if she knows everything that I have had done at all my precious appointments. I have NEVER been challenged by an office person who should never question anything regarding any of my care other than financial information. They called me to come for my appointment. Where did they get the information to call me if I haven't given my previous information regarding my insurance. I had contacted my UPMC provider the last time I was turned away by this same woman telling me that my insurance would not cover my exam. And, they told me that I can indeed have my yearly gynecological needs covered. But, this office clerk seems to think she knows more about my personal information than my insurance company. Also, she seems to think she is in charge of my personal medical information as I still have my ovaries which does not constitute a total hysterectomy. As she has never been in the room when Dr. Jacobsen when she has examined me, so how can she tell me what the doctor and I discuss. I will never return to this establishment again which is sad as I have been a patient and absolutely love Dr. Jacobsen. It is very sad that one employee has so much power that she can treat patients this way. I will be calling my insurance company and telling them what transpired as this is completely inappropriate behavior for an office clerk.
