Here is my story. Form your own opinion. Dr Lee operated on me 2 years ago for an elective sigmoid colon resection for diverticulitis history. I was never well after that surgery. After a rare post op complication called mesenteric fat necrosis was identified on CT one month after my surgery, he said he did not want to remove it, or I could end up losing a lot of healthy bowel. I was assured that this approx. 6 cm. mass would get smaller, and that I would feel better. I never did. I had continual problems with diarrhea, or obstructive symptoms, and abdominal pain preventing me from most of my normal activities. I was miserable for almost two years, but tried to just make the best of it. I kept going back to Dr. Lee about every six months. He was always dismissive, telling me that what I had was not a surgical problem, but a motility problem. He was surprised I still felt ill. He said I looked well. He said that many people who had what I had don't have pain at all. His attitude made me feel like a malingerer, even though I was not asking for time off from work or pain medication. My husband and I went to a specialist in Mayo Clinic and in Boston at own own expense. Conditions other than this post op complication were ruled out. I had CTs every six months ordered by Dr Lee. Although I was no better, the mass appeared to be getting smaller. That's all Dr Lee focused on. He did not listen to me or my symptoms. Finally, when my husband and I couldn't stand it anymore, we went back in and practically begged him to "take a look" while another dear surgeon was kind enough to take me in to fix a small incisional hernia. I had my surgery. I went home from the recovery room and felt better immediately. The mass was removed, as were a significant number of adhesions, and some foreign body small metal objects that should not have been in there. These were mixed into that area of fat necrosis. Unfortunately, maybe since the mass was in for so long, it had adhered to my small bowel and bladder. Ouch. When I followed up with Dr Lee post op (although this was not on my discharge instructions), I asked Dr Lee about the pathology. He said that it was some fat, but not attached to anything. Although I am a Nurse Practitioner and my husband is a physician, he must think we don't read: we received our own copies of my medical records. My advice? When choosing a surgeon, make certain he has enough ego and self esteem to admit when things may not have gone as he would have hoped, then do your best to repair or refer in a timely manner.

My sister was first recommended to him for rectal cancer. Kind, patient, understanding, basically saved her life. Then she had more problems and was back again. This time gall bladder.
When I needed a gastro for polyps I immediately went to Dr. Lee and he did a resection. I loved his staff and his bedside manner. Couldn't recommend any doctor higher than Dr. Lee.

Was sent to him as specialist to reverse colostomy. Now, almost a month later back in the hospital with infection and possible leak. Not a happy camper!

My experience with Dr. Edward Lee, nurses, anestisiologists and entire O.R. staff at Albany Medical Center were wonderful. The team was very professional and made me feel that my needs were very improtant and would be met with the best of care. Dr. Lee above all else was kind, compassionate and the ultimate surgeon. I went in for a hernia operation and just hours after the procedure was feeling great. I never even needed the pain medication that was perscribed to me. I feel very fortunate to have found Dr. Lee and his staff, and highly recommend him to any person looking for the best.

Doctor didn't listen to me at all; offered me no help whatsoever; I was the victim of malpractice at another clinic, and he seemed interested only in protecting his colleague; he might be OK for very routine, easy procedures which require no thought whatsoever, but couldn't handle my difficult case.

Great doctor who is both humble and brilliant at the same time. He answers every question, no matter how many you have, and has a lot of empathy. He is simply the best in the Capital District!

Excellent, knowledgable physician, with a good deal of empathy and a good sense of humor. Explains enough about what he intends to do to give the patient a strong sense of confidence
