I always thought that people seeking psychological help were just weak minded. Wow! Was I wrong. This Dr. Helped me through the darkest days of my life (and continues to do do). John Buxton was able to predict my next obstacles & gave me invaluable insight as to how to cope with them. I cannot sing his praises loud enough. If you are experiencing any problems that make you feel down (he rightly corrected my previous Drs' opinions that I was depressed & needed medication; they had prescribed me Paxil, Zoloft & etcetera, he recognized that I was NOT clinically depressed), then please let Dr. Buxton have a chance at just giving you some advice. It's painless and well worth it. It is without hesitation that I recommend at least one visit with this Dr., no matter if one is on top of the world or feels that the weight of the world is coiming down on you, you will be rewarded. I promise!

I went to him for depression and anxiety. He made me very uncomfortable. I got so uncomfortable I went into a panic attack in a session. Obviously that was my last session. But I didn't feel like he had much help to give me. I guess it was nice to have someone other than my husband to talk to, but that's all we did was talk about my issues, and he really didn't help me move through them, or give me any techniques to help with the anxiety and depression.

I was supposed to be taking anger management with this doctor and the first 3 sessions were ok, we at least talked about what might be causing my anger, which he ended up stating in one session I don't have anger issues. The next 5 seessions were horrible we talked about nothing but Planes, New York and whatever else intrigued him. I'm glad I didn't continue to see this doctor and pay money out of my pocket

I saw him for depression and feelings of isolation. We talked for about ten minutes about my issues before he told me what I needed to do. Then he gave me the worst advice I've ever heard -- basically that I should be isolated because of my lifestyle and that no one would accept me, except people like me. He was self-congratulatory, smug and rude -- much more interested in "winning" an arguement than hearing my thoughts. Since then I have talked to two other former patients who had similar experiences with very different issues. I wish I had known two things: 1) That psychologists are not the best doctors to speak to for emotional issues unless you feel those issues are physically related and 2) That this psychologist especially is unhelpful and unknowledgable of real emotional issues. I hope no one else has to pay for his services without knowing it. Also, check your insurance carefully. They said I was covered but I was not.
