He is a wonderful provider and has taken excellent care of me. It's hard to find care like this today that is both professional and personable.

Dr. Vancauwelaert has been my doctor for 10 years, he has helped me, my parents, and even a relative who was visiting from out of town. Everyone of us and anyone I referred to him to be extremely kind. I would like to ad that during this 1-year span of time, I have had private insurance, no insurance and for the past two years have had HMO and his style can compassion have never changed.

Avoid this doctor if you have an HMO. Ever since I switched to an HMO he is annoyed to see me, spends about 3 minutes with me in the exam room, and is very moody. At my last appointment, he did not even bother taking vitals (checking heart rate, blood pressure, etc) he just wanted my out of the door as soon as possible. Sadly, people with HMOs get sick too, and suffer when doctors get greedy.

I moved to Chicago one year ago and had bad experinces with three different doctors. I followed a neighbor's advice and saw Dr. Vancawlert and was thrilled. He was ontime, listened, explained and answered my questions, as well as helped me get my diabetes under control. I will stay with his practice!

Very cold bedside manner. Very abrupt. Hates repeating information, which can be difficult for the patient who needs to clarify what's going on, of course. Seems annoyed in general, angry. Competent doctor, rude person.

Our family of 4, soon 5, has been seeing Dr. V for almost 2 years now. Meeting him after our 2nd son's birth, we were so impressed that we all switched to his care immediately. He has been more thorough in giving me info about my children's vaccines than any of the other 4 doctors we'd been to. He offers varied (though somewhat limited) hours, and has always been able to see us within a short amount of time, including same- or next-day when the kids are sick. He's followed up by phone after my son's ER visits. Dr. V is friendly, polite, knowledgeable, and never more than 5 minutes behind, something that to me is beyond valuable. We plan to stay with him as long as we're in the Chicago area.

Receptionist is incredibly rude. Dr. used to be nice but has become rude/indifferent as well, (maybe jaded, since he is fairly young). He is out of the office a lot, and only seems to want to care for healthy patients. If you have medical issues, he seems to be indifferent to you. He can get very moody. Forget seeing him when you are sick too, very unflexible that way. Will offer an appointment 2 weeks out. Rushed in and out, asks if you have any questions, but is practically headed out the door already, he doesn't really seem to want to know.
