I had the opportunity to have surgical treatment under the care of Dr. Edward Scheid. The first thing I can say about him is that he is a straight talker. He will tell you what is wrong and he will not sugarcoat it. He will tell you exactly what he thinks is the best thing you should do and he’s going to recommend for you what he would recommend for his family. He did an amazing job taking care of me in my hour of need. I had a major back problems that was created when I had spine surgery by someone else that didn’t go so well. No one would be see me. A friend of a friend told me to call Dr. Scheid. He was more than willing to see me. He told me exactly what was wrong. He he told me that it wasn’t that the surgery I had by someone else was done wrong, it was just that I didn’t heal right. He went in and did his thing three small incisions and took out the stuff they put in before and put new stuff in that was stronger. I woke up feeling like my back for the first time in 20 years was straight up solid. It felt strong. Don’t let me kid you, I was in pain. But the pain went away pretty quickly. I’m only writing this because everybody needs to know that Dr. Scheid will take care of you. When you meet him you’ll know what I mean.

Dr. Scheid took me on as a patient after we met in the emergency room. I had surgery in Indiana before moving to Albany. Started getting bad back pain that got worse and worse, eventually so bad I couldn’t walk. Turned out I had a new problem in my back above he area that was fixed before. I thought for sure I was going to need another operation but Dr. Scheid admitted me and put me on some meds and got things calmed down. I was able to go home in a few days. I think most surgeons would’ve just operated— I certainly was begging for him to do it. I am very thankful that he took a cautious approach. I still have the problem on and off again but haven’t needed an operation.

Dr. Scheid did surgery on my low back after I ruptured a disc. I had severe pain shooting into my buttock and thigh. Dr. Scheid did surgery and it was like a light switch got turned off when I woke up from anesthesia. Pain was virtually gone. He did a great job.

Highly recommend to anyone with a spine or back problem. He helped me very much. He got right to the point during my visit. He told me what I knew already, that I needed surgery. It went fine and he made sure I knew what to expect.

Dr. Scheid really did an amazing job with my surgery and has helped me get back to close to where I was before the accident. He was with me every step of the way, and I am very thankful for him and his whole team and the great care they gave me.

I will always hold Dr. Scheid in the highest regard for how he cared for both my brother and I. Within the span of four years, both he and I developed spinal problems that were very similar. Dr. Scheid felt it was inherited. We had very narrow spinal columns which led to compressed nerves. Interestingly we both ended up having similar or almost identical surgeries to fix the problem, surgeries that usually aren’t necessary until later in life. Dr. Scheid was superb. He listens. He understands that you are terrified of surgery. He was so kind and helped me get in the right frame of mind. My brother said the same thing. The result of my surgery was excellent. My brother did great for quite a few years but he was stupid and hurt himself again lifting something at work. He is back in treatment and may need something else done eventually.

I tripped and did a tumble down stairs landing square on my back. Actually thought I was fine for about 2 days and then the pain started. Burning shooting into my buttocks. Legs felt heavy and weak. Saw my PCP who called Dr. Scheid. He saw me a few days later. We did an MRI on my first visit. I went to lunch, came back, saw Dr. Scheid again. I had a blown out disc and it was serious because of how big it was. Tried some steroids over the weekend and still wasn't any better so Dr. Scheid suggested surgery. He brought me in and took the disc out. I spent a few nights in the hospital. Did really well. I am very impressed with the efficiency of his office and how nice everyone was to me. His whole staff is really good..

Dr. Scheid did a lumbar fusion on me after I had a diagnosis of facet disease and severe stenosis. I had tried everything else I could think of before I decided on surgery-injections, acupuncture, PT, even chiropractic. Nothing worked. Surgery did, fortunately. Dr. Scheid was great. Office visits were a little chaotic at times because his waiting room is jam packed. My only complaint about the whole experience is the wait time to get an appointment and waiting time in the office to be seen. Overall, my experience was excellent and I would recommend Dr. Scheid very highly.

I had a cyst growing on a joint in my back. Went with steroid injections first which did absolutely nothing. Everyone recommended Dr. Scheid so I saw him because pain was becoming unliveable. He felt that we needed to do surgery. We tried a laminectomy which took the cyst out and my pain was completely gone for about 6 months. Then pain came back and I saw Dr .scheid who did an MRI and told me cyst had grown back. He did another surgery, this time a minimal spinal fusion and I've been nearly pain free ever since. He really stuck with me and made sure I got a good result. Always honest and straightforward

Dr. Scheid is amazing!! Over the past few years he has operated first on my neck, and then a year later on my lumbar. I had had 2 neck surgeries elsewhere before meeting him. Dr that did the necks originally said that she couldn’t help me anymore! and the plate in my neck was coming loose! Dr Scheid calmed me down, explained how he was going to fix it and he did! My pain went away almost immediately and my swallowing got much better. A year later I had a herniated lumbar and he took care of that too. He is wonderful!
