Why is this clinic still open?? SMH Waste of taxpayers' money!! Wharton himself unbelievable! There needs to be a standards or services review to ensure patients are receiving the care this clinic says they provide. So sad!

This doctor and clinic staff are dangerous. I went to this clinic around 9 years ago and I had thought at the time it was ok. After struggling for 10 years with anorexia, I swung in a different direction, developed bulimia and had gained some weight. My GP referred me for a consultation highlighting the ED and related mental health issues associated. I also verbally disclosed this info during my first appointment. My first appointment I was told I wasn’t overweight enough to qualify for bariatric surgery but “would put me on the list just in case I gained a lot more weight.” I agreed at the time because I was not in a healthy state of mind. Completely unethical and dangerous to even suggest this to some actively engaged in ED behaviour. I was then prescribed Saxenda (I trusted the doctors and again, was not in a clear mental state at the time) and suffered horrible effects from kidney problems to my blood sugar dropping dangerously low that I ended up in the ER multiple times probably due to the drug in combination with my ED behaviours. I disclosed all of this to both the doctor and 2 separate “educators” yet my prescription was renewed and I was recommended by one of the educators to read a book about women and their relationship with God. I really wish I was making this up but I’m not. I honestly wanted to get better and feel better but this was not the place. I asked to be taken off the bariatric surgery list, de-rostered from the clinic and started seeing an independent dietitian and therapist that catered to my individual needs. I’m in recovery and a have good relationship with food and my body. Please do your research before going to or during your time with this clinic. Arm yourself with knowledge before doing anything or taking anything recommended by them just because they hold the title of “doctor.” They are profiting from pharmaceutical companies every time they wrote that (expensive) prescription, as well as from the province every time they put a patient on the bariatric surgery list. Listen to your body and mind and if something doesn’t feel right, trust yourself. There are other weight loss options that can treat you as an individual not just the same plan given to every patient walking in and out of their clinic.

Very condescending and arrogant. Did not feel heard or listened to at all. Treated me like a child and was abrupt and dismissive.

Dr. Wharton is a wealth of bariatric knowledge. He has been a tremendous help in my weight loss journey and he goes above and beyond. I would recommend him in a heartbeat. Follow his direction, he knows what he is talking about, trust him, you won't go wrong.

I'm very impressed with the Wharton Medical Clinic.

I feel my specific needs are addressed and I'm offered many different resources to help me. Dr. Wharton is incredibly kind and compassionate.

My past experiences with other doctors and my weight have left me weary and apprehensive about getting help in losing weight. The Wharton Medical Clinic is completely different from anything I've ever experienced. The staff is non-judgemental, encouraging, and supportive.

Thank you!

Only about the money. Clinic closed due to the pandemic, I get that, but basically no one to renew the medications that he has been prescribing, because he doesn't get any money for renewing a prescription. It's called abandoning your patients.

Having been a patient now for 3 months I'm not sure what this program actually does or offers. I think it is in support of diet pills. I'd like to better understand The Clinic's relationship with the pharmceutical industry . The educators you see every few weeks are a hit and miss. The doctors seem to care, but I am not sure what the purpose of my visit is with them, except to make the billing acceptable to OHIP. I think this program may be for people who need drugs or bariatric surgery. It is not a weight-loss program if you don't need or want drugs to help you. They do no offer any support, any meal plans, or nutritional consulting. In may case they suggested that I add more fibre to my diet, did not give me any instructions nor how much fibre that I could add over any period of time. This resulted in making me quite sick, instigating a bout of diverticulitis (which I never had before). I ended up in the emergency dept for an overnight stay. I have lost weight, but it has nothing to do with their care, it's because of my own commitment to a life style change. I'm pretty upset about the poor instructions with respect to dietary changes and how sick it made me.

Tried the clinic for about a year and came to the conclusion that it is a waste of my time and OHIP money. My problem is obsessive compulsive eating and I tried to explain that to the doctor. Unfortunately he did not listen to me at all. Instead he prescribed some pills to manage my weight. Don't see how that is solving the root of my weight problem.

I have tried many programs but have hopefully met with success. It is coming off slowly . He has answered all my questions and you don’t even have to weigh in ifyou don’t want . He has also taken me off blood pressure medication.

Nothing to be arrogant and smug about if you ask me but that’s what he is. Waste of a time clinic.
