Dr. Sethna is truly a disappointment as Chief of Psychiatry. I shared something private with him and assumed it would be confidential. I was wrong in assuming, and the guy betrayed my trust. I would not want him to be my primary psychiatrist after this odd, and quite childish, encounter. He proved to me that his ego is fragile and that he is a petty man.

He's been at MSH for decades and only has 39 reviews....hmmm, the 4.5 star rating he holds is not a true indicator of how incompetent he can be. He certainly isn't the #1 psychiatrist in Markham! Being a Chief is just a title with a fatter paycheck and more fancy dinners with asss-kissers.

I spent several weeks in inpatient and other patients shared their disappointments in him as well. They just didn't bother to come here and voice their opinions. Well here's his 40th review and it isn't praising him like some sort of whitecoat god. He's just a man with a fancy title and a lot of book knowledge. Dealing with people is definitely not a strongpoint at this point in his career.

**His front desk staff are incredibly kind, patient, and professional. I unfortunately only gave them one star because I wanted this review to be as low as possible.

Dr. Sethna is a very caring, knowledgeable and experienced psychiatrist. I am very lucky to have him as my psychiatrist.

Recently I was admitted to the hospital on 15 Sep 2023 because of suicidal ideation. I also went through 72 hours of observation under Mental Health Act (Form 42). I saw Dr. Sethna on the following Monday and he took a lot of time to understand my situation and did an adjustment to my medication. Although he will be leaving for a 3-weeks vacation, yet he arranged another psychiatrist and a Nurse Pratitioner to take care of me in his absence.

Due to the funding from charity donation and government funding, I was able to have a private room to myself for the first few days and moved to a semi-private room for the remaining of my stay. I had a private bathroom with shower to share with my roommate.

Dr. Sethna is a very compassionate and trust worthy psychiatrist. I was surprised from the Nov 9th review why the police had called Dr. Sethna directly? Dr. Sethna is the Chief of Psychiatry. If all patients are supposed to be treated alike, usually after registration with the Emergency, will be assessed by the Crisis Team and then by the duty psychiatrist to confirm if there is a need for hospitalization or not. Most patients have voluntary admission and some will be hospitalized for 72 hours under Mental Health Act.

Due to the high demand of beds, any patient that got admitted should be grateful for having an opportunity to get counselling and treatment from the hospital. 3 meals were provided daily with some occasional snack. We are even able to do our own laundry.

It is true that cell phones have to be left with the nurse counter but the hospital has public phones where we can call our friends and family. Under special condition, one can have access to one's cell phone if there is a need and approved by the doctor.

Dr. Sethna has been my psychiatrist since 2024 and he has been very generous in waiving any fee for doctor's report and always respond personally if needed via phone calls.

I hope this help to clear the cloud. It is very easy when we are depressed or anxious that we tend to have negative thoughts about others. I respect all inputs including passive remarks as this may be the real thought and true impression of the reviewer. However, I just want to take this opportunity to share my side of the story as well.

PLEASE READ: If you look carefully, most reviews are from patients of many, many years. Rustom is no longer interested in treating new patients but rather running a hospital unit. I was referred to Rustom and he was my treating physician for a short period of time. I am a health care provider diagnosed with PTSD. One day I was in crisis with police involved. Police contacted Rustom via phone and made arrangements for him to meet me in Emergency. Although Rustom told police he would meet me at ER, Rustom never came. No one at ER was even notified that I would be coming. I was then thrown into a mental health room for hours, denied any opportunity to talk to Rustom and then told that he had already left for the day. I was then restrained and sedated by staff when I had a panic attack. I spent the next 72 hours held in the mental health unit. After 48 hours I was able to call my wife and family to tell them where I was. When I finally saw Rustom the next morning, he explained that although he said he would come, he had a funeral to attend and therefore was unable to meet me at ER. He then made me feel like a burden to him and explained to me the many hours he had to spend dealing with my ER visit from the night before. I attended one appointment after this where I told Rustom I would no longer be his patient due to the horrific event at Markham Stouffville Hospital. I am finally in a very healthy place in my life and I have received excellent care elsewhere. I still care about helping people and I have wanted to make this public when I was healthy and in a much better place. I truly hope that this public information prevents anyone else from running into the similar care that I received by Rustom and his staff at Markham Stouffville Hospital. This info provides a little bit of insight as to what you can expect if you are planning on being a new patient of Rustom in the future. I urge you to look for a psychiatrist that cares about your recovery and not one that cares about himself. Good luck in your recovery!

Dr Sethna literally saved my life. I suffer from chronic jaw pain and after a thyroidectomy for thyroid cancer went into a deep depression which I could not climb out of. As a nurse I was sure I could fix myself but I came to realize after suicidal thoughts came into play that I needed help. A referral from a mental health nurse friend started my journey to a healthy mental state. He is always there when; I need him, and speaks to me with the utmost respect. His staff are wonderful, non judgmental and caring. I recommend him to my own patients and would not be here if he had not intervened to help me
