For the person who rated Dr. Sethna low because he wouldn’t listen to the family’s (wife mostly) concerns understand that he wasn’t being beligerant or blowing you off. Psychiatrists cannot talk to family about anything revolving around a patient because of confidentiality and not letting things slip out. The only time they will allow you to be there or offer an opinion is if the patient gives permission or the patient is a minor. Sethna and other psychiatrists won’t talk to or treat immediate family of patients either so confidential info doesn’t come out. It’s an oath they take and don’t break because of repercussion. Also, if Dr. Sethna or any other psychiatrist is stern or harsh with you it’s because they are talking to your illness and not you or they feel you need to accomplish something in particular or focus effort on. Sethna wants you to be better than you were before and after having an illness. He’s on the same page as patients and is helping people stare down evil 24/7 365 and your advocate whether you see that yet or not. Also, believe me with the exam he does in hospital, once weekly out patient appointments plus 4 a year an awful lot comes up and out to be dealt with so yes, he does often know more than the people surrounding the patient. If for a second he thought a patient wasn’t well or not with it he would have them hospitalized on the spot. Dr. Sethna has saved my life and has had me for close to 2 decades as a patient who is leading better than normal life. I don’t know what I would do without him and wouldn’t even want to entertain that thought. He’s also the top person or one of them in Ontario that media goes to for interviews.

Dr Sethna is one of the kindest and knowledgeable doctors I have ever met. He helped me when no one else could. He literally saved my life and continues to be there as I need him. His staff are professional and friendly. He helped take the stigma out of mental health for me.

I have been a patient of Dr Sethna for over 25 years and in my opinion it would be impossible to find another Dr like him in the world. Absolutely fantastic. He changed my life. I will be eternally greatful to him.

Calls it like it is, and I really like that about him. He has helped me so much with his approach to my health. I know he can't see me as often as I'd like but after years of seeing so many Psychiatrists, I know a good one when I see one ! Grateful is all I can be that we have a healthcare system in Canada that allows us to choose our docs. He has always been objective and made me think things through. My marriage and my life and mainly my mental health are all back on track and I'm living again and I thank you Dr. Sethna.

I have been blessed to have known Dr.Sethna. He became my doctor when I was a teenager and had decided to take my own life. Luckily for me, I survived and had the honour of being in his care. I was on medication for about three years and slowly managed to be completely off meds. If it wasn't for Dr. Sethna, I don't think it would've been possible for me to live my life successfully without medication. He is one of the most intelligent people I have ever known. His knowledge and expertise in the field of psychiatry is impeccable! I am in my thirties now and still remember and live by some of the strong guiding principals he taught me. I wish we had more people like Dr.Sethna, mental Illness won't be a stigma but become a strength for those who suffer from it.

I almost hung myself with a guess and last resort medication. I would like to see him lose his license. He is dangerous and arrogant. Stay away from him!
