I have to wait 1 1/2 to 2 hours every time I have an appointment. Did surgery - which did nothing to help. Said they would call when they had injections scheduled - never called. Avoid!

At work I experienced a traumatic injury to my left hip & right knee. Dr. S diagnosed a labral tear in my hip, did an arthroscopic surgery & repaired it. Unfortunately this repair did not hold, tearing worse 2 weeks later. He did a 2nd repair 5 months later. I could tell within weeks that something was still wrong. When I conveyed this, becoming tearful (and I'm NOT an easy crier), from both the physical pain as well as the emotional, he invalidated me & my tears with his chastising dismissal. Fast -forward, I did request a referral to a hip specialist, which Dr. S did helpfully facilitate, but the next 2 surgeries with that dr did nothing to alleviate the pain either. Back to Dr. S for 5th surgery that Dr. S said was needed for scar tissue removal that was likely causing much distress. This was an open incision surgery. Not only did this do nothing to relieve pain, it left my left hip with a 6 inch keloided scar and a huge unsightly bulge just below the incision. This bulging deformity shows through clothing & makes pants fit tighter on that area. As this was a Worker's Comp situation, I ended up settling the case this February when I changed employers. At that time I was still under Dr. S's care, as I had been since June 2012. As I no longer had W/C coverage, I had to cancel my follow up appt with him. I found it interesting that neither he or his staff bothered to even call to follow up after so many years & surgeries. I now have Kaiser Permanente ortho doc who diagnosed me with congenital hip dysplasia & stated that labral repairs are not recommended for people with HD because these repairs won't hold. Hmmmm... how 'bout that?! How did Dr. S completely miss this obvious & common problem despite the numerous X-rays & MRI's he sent me for?? I find this not only sad, disappointing & angering, but scary. What else is he missing when he's providing care??
Oh, and I concur with the other reviewers on thus site re: ridiculous wait times. How does he get an hour behind when you're the first patient of his day??

I witnessed nothing to justify high ratings for this practice. All staff and doctors give only the bare minimum patient care they need to transcribe records for cpt codes and maximized billing. Patients are ushered in and out to optimize numbers rather than treat with care and compassion. When I was in tears, the doctor just looked at me and gave no comfort or acknowledgement of my feelings. I couldn't be more disappointed, and I see no reason why this practice comes so highly recommended - other than the fancy building and the snooty attitudes.

I went to Dr. Schengel for knee pain and he sent me to physical therapy which did nothing. When I returned after therapy for reevaluation he told me to go home and return to my regular activities. When I told him I would love to but it was too painful, he just rolled his eyes at me as if I were being a big baby and left the room. I tried to return to normal life for about 6 months until the pain got so bad that I went to another Dr. who gave correct diagnosis. Unfortunately by then there was permanent damage to my bone that has caused life altering problems and pain. The new Dr.,physical therapist and articles I have read since then say it is common knowledge that if knee pain does not respond to treatment you need to take a look at what is happening in the hip area. Why doesn't Dr. Schengel know this? I could kick myself for not getting a second opinion sooner. Somehow he was so condescending I thought maybe I was being a baby. Trust yourself and find a Dr. that listens.

Dr. Schengel and staff are the very BEST! I had many arthroscopic surgeries with Dr. S. then, eventually, he did both my knee replacements. He did everything he could to postpone major surgery as long as possible. He has a great sense of humor, caring bedside manner and holds nothing back during consultation. And, hey, everyone deserves to take a vacation! He always sets up a back-up Dr. to take calls while he is gone. I guess you could say I'm a fan.

Although he is very knowledgeable, I felt rushed, and had to wait over an hour each visit. The nurses were very rude and made you feel dumb for asking questions.

This so called doctor is letting a patient die because he does not want to do what is needed for her survival. Then he goes on vacation. Here comes the lawyer. Avoid!

Great doctor and staff. Very knowledgable and up to date. Waiting time can be 1 1/2 hrs. and I don't know why. This is the only issue I have found here but he is worth the wait.

Dr. Schengel is very professional and provides the highest quality care while remaining empathetic to his patients. He stays up to date with the most current treatments in the orthopedic field and is not afraid to get a second opinion if the patient requests it or he thinks it is indicated.
