When Dr. Smith was in Pensacola...he lacerated my bladder while doing my hysterectomy.(I woke up wearing a bag!) He had a good bedside manner PRIOR to the surgery...when I got sick (from the overpowering hormone patch he put on me) and had to stay in the hospital six days his comment: "I don't know what's wrong with you. I operated on you DOWN THERE, not up there" He seemed angry that I was so sick. My scar is crooked. He is awful. This is my opinion.

Dr.Smith is one of the best doctors I have ever had and we are lucky to have him in Urbana-Champaign. He is very knowledgeable and caring. He does not keep me waiting for long or needlessly run tests or complicate things, and he is always willing to address all questions and concerns. How can you not love a doctor who wears Hawaiian t-shirts or shirts with dragons on it? In addition to being one of the best and most knowledgeable doctors he's also such a nice person with a great sense of humour. I'm so fortunate that he has been my OBGYN before my pregnancy, throughout my pregnancy and will soon be delivering my first baby. He's a great doctor you can trust and have full confidence in.

this was my first visit with Dr. Smith. He was kind and on time. took time to talk with me. After the exam he had me come to his office where further discussion occured. I felt like I had 100% of his attention. He gave me options and listened to me. For a first visit, I am very pleased and when necessary would confidentially see him again.

My wife visited Dr. Smith when changing OB's, and saw him for recurring, painful UTI's. After a particularly long bout with one infection, he took a culture, the results of which would not be known for at least 5 days, and told her he was "absolutely certain" that she had Chlamydia. She told him that it wasn't possible, and he told her that she "must accept the fact that her husband had given her an STD." Five days later, after seeing her general practitioner, the results proved that her infection was a severe UTI and kidney infection. Dr. Smith told her "you know, I give this talk to the students (U of I) all the time," meaning that when they came in for treatment of a UTI, he had to tell them they had an STD. When the results of the test became available (the visit was on Friday, the lab did not do tests on Monday, and it was Thanksgiving week), Dr. Smith's office never even called to give her the results. Terrible service, zero ethical standard, no concept of proper behavior.

Dr. Smith is the most knowledgeable OB in the Champaign area. I am married to a doctor and he asked around before we chose one. All of the surgeons said that Dr. Smith is who they would send their wives to. He has delivered over 3000 babies and knows what he is talking about. I feel that the person that wrote about how she wanted a certain birth control device should learn that we can not learn on the internet (from product placement & others experiences) what a physician can learn in 14 years of schooling! If you want a physician who knows what they are doing you should go to him. I will never go to anyone else for gynecology or OB, he is the best.

I felt Dr. Smith was condescending. I thought I had an appt to have a birth control device inserted but Dr. Smith said he wanted to have the appt to talk me out of my decision. He told me the birth control device I had selected was a poor choice but never asked what research I had done, what I was looking for from my birth control, or what my menstrual cycles were like. His reasoning against the device was that a somewhat similar device made by a different company over a decade ago had side effects. When I persisted that I had looked into this aspect he gave up but was obviously displeased. Overall the office had poor communication between staff and it took me many calls to make an appointment for insertion. I had to wait till I had my period and because the staff didn't have an order to work me in I had to wait another entire month till I got my period again. In the end I LOVE the birth control device I selected but won't be visiting Christie Clinic again.
