My first 2 visits were great. Upon my third visit, I was unknowingly scheduled with scheduled with a PA that only wanted to argue with me regarding their policy of ignoring RX refill request from pharmacies. I am a a totally new patient to Dr Nolan's practice and very new to the state of SC. In CA, it is not allowed to IGNORE refill requests of pain management requests from a pharmacy unless it is specifically notated in the pain management contract or unless it is specifically a medication that cannot be refilled without a month to month visit, which mine was not. Furthermore, I specifically stated, right when I walked in that I had been waiting more than 48 hrs. for them to respond to Walgreens so I was no in full withdrawal, so I needed to make my visit quick. I waited about 45 mins before I was told I wasn't even being seen by my Dr but a PA after not even being seen in almost 90 days for my RX evaluation of a new medication. I also had written on my required form that the medication was giving me a rash so I even had to take it off a day early, so I would need to discuss a new medication anyway.
When this PA walked in, she didn't ask how I was feeling, she just wanted to INFORM me to the fact that they ignore faxes from pharmacies for any and all RX requests and even in the last 30 mins they had 40 that they ignored. Also, she informed me that mine was never received. I had already called Walgreens, I knew that they sent the request, because I get emails, phone calls and texts with updates. Then she changed her story and said well they did get the request and they sent a message back for me to call my provider. Well, I attempted to call back again and she then said I was being aggressive and said I would need to either schedule another appointment or wait for the Dr for an unknown amount of time and she stormed out of the room.
Once she left, I was able to complete my call with Walgreens, they confirmed that they did request the refill and Dr Nolan's office in no way responded. I was sitting there waiting to be punished in some way while going thru withdrawal from my pain medication because now it was considered an incident. The Dr had to come and see me when he was done with all of his other patients. I suggested that I get 1 month of the current medication and come back for a regular appt w/ a Dr, but know, they tried to hold me hostage in the room waiting.
I have had 3 major back surgeries removing tumors from my nerves. I have been on pain management responsibly for almost 20 yrs with several different Dr's depending on where I have lived and have had the same neurosurgeon for all 3 surgeries ( 20 yrs). I have NEVER had any incident like this in my life. It was disturbing and disgusting to have some PA yelling at me as if I was some low life.
After being there almost 90 minutes I had to leave.
Dr Nolan didn't even have the grace or compassion to follow up with me for HIS employee's terrible behavior. It was disgusting!

Dr Nolon, and all of his staff were professional, emphatic, and caring, as I could tell, for each and every person they treated. His injections were almost without pain and provided immediately noticeable relief. View the bad reviews with a large grain of salt {you can't please everyone...} My visit was pleasant, and I felt that I was really listened to. OK, it did take a fairly long time to get to me, but everyone there was taken care of, I can take the wait - it was definitely worth it. Dr Nolon, I'm so happy to have met you and feel fortunate to be in your capable and caring hands. THANK YOU

They lack concern for their patients. Due to their error, they rescheduled me twice. They tried for a third. I gave him some instructions of my own.

Thought my initial visit would be consultation to draw up pain management program. Am getting over shingles and phn is bad. First was tokd that Dr Nolan requires genetic/metabolic test to determine how well my body metabolizes various meds. Results take 3-4 weeks so not sure what immediate good. Have collapsing veins so nurse couldn't draw any blood after 2 tries. Then Dr. Nolan finally came in and when I asked a question about the mentioned injection (???), he asked me in a very beligerent manner if I knew who he was. After listening to his prattle, I tried to get more info about the injection. I didn't have a driver which resulted in more ranting. But I had the injection without sedation because the pain was bad. Sat 2 hours. Had to ask why the 2 hour wait. Found out I could have had sedation before the injection if had had a driver. Commumication really sucks. And no bedside manner. Not sure if steroid spinal shoot gave me any relief but will try one more time. Then if same old, I'll be contacting Trident management. Oh yes, did I mention Dr. Nolan suggesting I get some cannabis related "meds" before the injection. Apparently everything they do in the clinic is covered by in surance except this. More interested in pushing sedation and other testing than talking to patient and explaining things. Am only 68, not senile, and have multiple degrees. So show me some respect. Show all patients respect.

Whatever his past success he now runs a pill and needle mill, is only interested in opening more offices and getting rich, and is letting his patients suffer. He does everything he can to maximize billing your insurance whether or not you need the procedures.

Don't even consider if you don't have 2-3 hours to sit around. Staff calls you honey sweetly or dear. Guess they can't be bothered to read your name off the chart in their hand. A lot of repetitive questions by different people who must not communicate with each other. They would be better off listening more and talking less. On a scale of 1-10 (one of their favorite questions) I rate him a 1for pain relief after numerous visits and 10 for aggravation

I have been a patient of Dr. Nolan's for >10 years and I am deeply troubled by the decline of individual care. When I first came to his practice he was readily available to speak with, but not anymore. I have been to monthly appointments for over a year and never seen him, only his ancillary staff. Even if you have acute changes to your pain the likelihood of seeing him is almost impossible. For the practice of managing human beings who are in pain weeks, months, years, or even longer, the staff is very thin skinned. They fail many times to be emphathetic towards the patients continuos pain. Chronic pain affects the patient in a global way. The individual's physical, psychological, and spiritual systems are greatly taxed, especially the longer you suffer.. The very nature of this specialty the staff is going to see "less than cordial" patients. While no one wants to be spoken to rudely however, the staff MUST remember that the patient comes FIRST. Not every healthcare professional who is qualified thru training can work in every aspect of medicine. This area happens to be one that the staff must remember why the patient is there and in the vastly very great majority of the time cope with the patient. They may want to reconsider the field of medicine they are working in.

I am very displeased with the care of Dr. Nolan. I don't know what he uses in his injections but I feel I could get just as much out of drinking a glass a water and save myself time and money. I have had several friends and family members say the same thing.
He does not even use a ultra sound machine to see exactly where the pain is actually radiating from. 3 hours of shuffling patience around when you are in extreme pain is ridiculous and still no relief. Plus they make a driver sit for 3 hours when sedation is really not needed for what he does.
