If you want good medical judgment and concern for your health, go elsewhere. Please do not see Dr. Shelley Marks and her PA, Mr. Kenny Ngo. My husband’s primary physician immediately referred him for an excisional biopsy when a lump was detected. Mr. Ngo and Dr. Marks did not feel a biopsy was warranted and only did the biopsy months later when my husband insisted. Fast forward five months after the initial visit with Mr. Ngo – rare malignant cancer with possible microscopic spread. We expressed our concerns to Sutter Health Patient Relations. Their response: “Unfortunately, sometimes within the practice of medicine, rare diagnoses are not as easily discovered.” It’s more accurate to say Dr. Marks and Mr. Ngo can’t easily diagnose rare diseases. Clearly, other doctors did.

Dr. Marks is truly one of the shining stars of the Palo Alto Medical Foundation. If you are lucky enough to have her as your surgeon, will you be one happy patient. She is not only an excellent surgeon but she is a wonderful person. She truly cares about her patients and you can tell. It is very difficult to find this combination in a surgeon. She can run behind schedule but that is not uncommon with the emergencies that can pop up in general surgery. She will give you her undivided attention when it is your turn. I have many friends that have had her as their surgeon and they have only wonderful things to say about her. Her RN is wonderful too.
