The best there is: He knows how to remove cancer from a woman's breast(s), he is skilled as a plastic surgeon so his incisions are beautiful and clean; and he uses the most up to date technology for treatment, and screening. I trust my life to him. The best part is he is a beautiful human being with excellent bedside manners. I love him!!!

Best doctor I have ever seen, I wish they were all like him. He was very patient and kind. Most importantly to me, he is very proactive in his treatment planning and sooo thorough. Also a great educator, he made sure that I knew how to do a proper self breast exam, showing me the things he felt on my breast, explained what those changes could be and then taught me how to gauge changes. He also had a breast model which had examples of what a malignant tumor would feel like versus a benign lesion. Really made me feel like he was on my team. And not mention he uses some of the most cutting edge technology. And his office staff was also incredible. Everyone was so pleasant. I can't stress this enough, this doc is a 10.

Biography

While a third-year medical student, Robert Gardner, MD, FACS was presented with a case would ultimately direct his career path. “It was a 32-year-old woman with three kids and metastatic breast cancer,” Dr. Gardner remembers. “It had obliterated her pituitary gland and she was only given six months to live.” “Over 42,000 woman per year die from the disease in the United States,” he continues. “It became a consummate passion of mine to improve early diagnosis and the prevention of breast cancer.” The first member of his family to go into medicine, Dr. Gardner was born and raised in New London, Conn. He earned his undergraduate degree in psychology from the University of Rochester and medical degree from State University of New York’s Upstate Medical Center. Dr. Gardner completed post-education with internship and residency at Columbia University’s Presbyterian Hospital in the city of New York. In 1973, Dr. Gardner relocated to Palm Beach County to join Palm Beach Medical Group (joining the medical society in 1974) where he practiced general and vascular surgery until 1991. In 1991, he “came home to my one true love, which is breast issues” and founded his private practice, Palm Beach Breast Institute in West Palm Beach. “The breast specialty has changed dramatically,” Dr. Gardner says. “It started out with surgeons doing radical mastectomy. Now we do partial – removing the tumor – and using radiation on the part of the breast which now can be given in the operating room with electrons.” Over the years, Dr. Gardner has helped establish many of the area hospital’s breast centers. From 1992 to 1995, he founded and was director of the Center for Breast Health at St. Mary’s Hospital and from 1996 to 2010 served as director at Center for Breast Care at West Palm Hospital. Dr. Gardner is currently affiliated with those two hospitals as well as Good Samaritan, Palm Beach Gardens Medical Center. At Palm Beach Breast Institute, Dr. Gardner and his staff offer comprehensive care for women with concerns about breast disease. This includes prevention, education, early detection and proper diagnosis, outreach programs, treatment options, and support groups. Dr. Gardner is the only physician in Palm Beach County Certified in Breast Ultrasound by the American Society of Breast Surgeons. “The culture surrounding breast cancer has changed leaps and bounds,” Dr. Gardner says. “25 years ago, it was shameful and woman would try and hide it. Now, through better imaging detection and diagnosis, the mortality rate of Stage 0 is only 2 percent.” Always one to stay ahead of the pack, Dr. Gardner is continuously involved in clinical studies and has had his research work published in various medical journals. He’s the father of five – Heather, Andrew, Mark, Erik, and Shana – and the founder of The Robert A. Gardner, MD Foundation, Inc., a not-for-profit that funds breast cancer public awareness campaigns and research. “I feel that it is an honor to take care of women,” Dr. Gardner says. “I would do it all over again in a heart beat. Every day is a privilege.”
