Dr. Cheeves tried to wean me off of Effexor XR twice. Both times in just 2 weeks. As a result, I tried to commit suicide during both of those withdrawals. I never tried to commit suicide before these rapid withdrawals and I am 45 years old. She didn't appologize for her negligence and, in fact, twisted it around by telling me that I need therapy and that I am lucky that I am not in a mental institute in a vegetative state as a result of my suicide attempts. As a doctor, she should know that she has to wean her patients off psychiatric drugs slowly to avoid possible terribe withrawal symptoms.

An important message for all doctors is that they should recognize the serious suicidal risk that certain medications (i.e. seizure/mood stabilizers) can and do cause, so that when a patient self-reports severe depression and dark despair, doctors will not deny, dispute, or ignore it simply because it is not presenting in the typical manner they have come to expect. Patients need their doctors to believe them.

Dr. Cheeves has been very helpful. She sees my father-in-law. After 15 years with a doctor who never changed his medications or checked his blood levels, he started seeing Dr. Cheeves. She is very caring, commpasionate and will try new things when something does not seem to be working. My father-in-law is a different person - he feels better and people have noticed the positive change in him. Hurray for Dr. Cheeves!

Knowledge - Dr. Katherine Cheeves is good at thinking inside the box, mostly the little pill box; she would do well to vastly expand her horizons. Helpfulness - By her manner and her actions or lack thereof, Dr. Katherine Cheeves unfortunately leaves no doubt as to how caring she actually is. Pills are simply no substitute for the healing nature of a truly caring doctor.
