Once Sirlin gets you to agree to an exploratory op procedure, you are on your own. Sirlin is more concerned with taking notes, the sole purpose of which is to protect himself from malpractice. Abundant in details but inaccurate in critical facts, and lacking basic grammar or punctuation, his transcripts read like "hedge my bets" narrative of "he said/she said”. Limited to Crohn's and IBS. Surgery and endoscopy is "the fix" for anything else. Avoid at all cost.

I have two major issues with this Doctor. The first being the front desk. Every time I have called to make an appointment she is Extremely rude to me. My son is autistic and has Many appointments throughout the week which makes it difficult to schedule anything. I understand, but that is no excuse to talk down to me and tell me I need to "make time"! I also drive 40 min to go to this particular doctor because he came highly recommended. It is tricky and hard enough to take my autistic son anywhere, especially the doctors office, the last thing we need is to be talked down to because of our circumstance.
The second issue is that the doctor was amazing at first at listening to our concerns and trying to find a cause. But after one test came back negative (even though other tests showed significant issues) he put him on a highly controversial over the counter medication and never again tried to help us find the deeper cause. When we would go for appointments he would make me feel like I shouldn't be concerned that this issue wasn't getting any better. I have since switched to a new GI doctor .

Dr. Sirlin is a good doctor but beware of the amount your insurance covers compared to the amount he charges. With my insurance CIGNA I ended up paying over $900 out of pocket after a procedure for my daughter because he bills at twice the rate my insurance considers reasonable. His office visits are also over billed but not as much as the procedure. The office staff makes no attempt to inform patients of costs and refers all billing questions to the billing office. If you choose to see Dr. Sirlin, be sure to check because your insurance will only cover a percentage of benefits up to the amount it considers reasonable and you will be stuck paying the rest.

Dr Sirlin is amazing. Better than any other specialist we have seen. Those who complain about seeing an NP just need to be specific about scheduling with him, not the NP. We have been patients a very long time and have NEVER seen the NP, only Dr Sirlin. His office staff can be a little less than nice sometimes. But I don't go there to see them, so who cares. Stephanie is a delight, the other receptionist, not so much (rude in fact and talks to you like you are an idiot). Medically speaking, I just don't think you can find a better peds GI doc around.

Dr. Sirlin was great; however, his staff are very mean and unhelpful. They are absolutely horrible. When I made an appointment, they asked me what insurance do I have and I told them. I assumed that they take it; since, they didn't say anything. They just took my info. When I got to the office, they gave me a bunch of papers to fill and sign. Like any others, if the insurance doesn't pay, I am responsible for the remaining balance. About a month or two later, I received a bill for more than $300.00. I called the office and I was told DR. SIRLIN DOES NOT TAKE ANY INSURANCE. Now, why wasn't I told about that from the beginning? They insisted that they did, which is a lie. They didn't want to hear anything.I called the billing office for help, but the person wasn't there. I called the office again after a few days, still no help. I called billing, left a message and no return. Got busy and called again to find out that it was transferred to collection and added 30 percent.

I have been seeing Dr. Sirlin since I was 14.I am 21 now and he has agreed to keep me until I graduate. He is amazing in every way. I've never felt so cared for by a doctor. They always respond promptly and he's always there when I need to be admitted into the hospital. I've never had any type of problems whatsoever and if you want someone who is truly there for the patient, I'd go with him.

He's a good doctor, his staff is awful and he's very hard to get in to see. I have been calling for two days, leaving messages asking for an appt because my son is in pain. No call back. Dr Sirlin must be doing very well business wise - he really doesn't seem to want more business with the way his calls are handled.
