Dr. Shmalz is amazing! Beyond thorough, patient, and kind. So happy to have someone we can count on and trust.

I went to First Care and unfortunately got stuck seeing Dr Scmalz...I had been getting shingles flare-ups all week..I know because I had gotten shingles 6 yearsin a row. so I know I needed antibiotics before I got a full blow attack...well the good doctor said I just had mosqito bites and would not prescribe anything. His reasoning was that you can't get shingles on both sides of your body at once...he couldn't be more wrong...they are caled Disseminated zoster..luckily I complained enough to get the antibiotics so my shingles attack was not do bad.But this guy doesn't know what he is doiing

The worse doctor I ever meat in my life... went to First Care with a sinus infection, i knew what was wrong with me from my symtoms since I get one sinus infection a year that would clear away by the second day with the right antibiotics, but that day Dr Schmalz insisted that no i don't need antibiotic, this will clear away. Well two weeks later i was on the my floor in the bathroom vomiting furiously , went to the doctor again, not him of course . I was told that i had a very bad sinus infection and i waited too long to see the doctor???? Well now, Dr Schmalz should not be called a doctor, this guy walking around with his wrinkled kakis and shirt!! he's a disgrace to doctors, he's unfriendly unkind, he is a horrible person , not even an eye contact when he refused me my Zpak. Horrible doctor

I went there to see a doctor because I have had a terrible cold for a week. I know my body and I knew I needed an antibiotic to treat it. When I explained to Dr Schmalz how this happens once a year and without the meds it goes into bronchitis but he wouldn't listen and refused me anything but cough meds and nose spray which already had. He said my lungs were clear and didn't need it. Over the next week I got so sick and finally got my regular Doctor who prescribed a z pack and I started to feel better within a week. That is the last time I will go to first care. The doctor was terrible,,,

I went to first care in November 2012 because it was just after Thanksgiving and I couldn't get an appointment with my own doctor for several days. I get one or two throat infections a year, and I know my own body. Nothing except an antibiotic works when I get sick. It's not a cold. It's not my allergies. I take allergy medications every day, anyway, and because of that I generally don't have to deal with the symptoms. Dr. Schmaltz told me I had a cold. Even though my throat felt like it was on fire and I could barely swallow, he prescribed nothing. He told me to have lots of liquids and rest. A month later, I was still sick. I went to the Verona office and saw Dr. Lipsich. She prescribed an antibiotic and, sure enough, I was feeling better within a few days. FirstCare is generally good, but the Lyndhurst office seems to have stopped prescribing antibiotics in the last few years. I understand that antibiotics are overused, but come on. Sometimes people really do need them.

I've been to First Care in Verona a couple of times and the other doctors are just great. This doctor on the other hand was dismissive and clearly didn't care about his client. I've seen him twice and both times he behaved in the same manner. I will definitely request for another doctor when I return to that office.

Try the walk-in on Broad St. in Clifton. First Care has gone downhill because they're hiring doctors like this guy. I bet they have numerous lawsuits on board already.

I went to First Care Medical Group in Lydnhurst, NJ on a Saturday as a walk-in (They don't take appts on weekends). I had very dry nostrils, a severely dry, painful sore throat and a mild fever. I went to the doctor because after using a humidifier, a neti-pot once a day, and drinking more than my usual amount of water, I was feeling worse. After seeing Schmalz, I left there with no ease. He didn't give me a thing. Wrote a script for an anti-inflammatory (which I had been taking already) and even talked me OUT of seeing an allergist. When I asked if he'd run bloodwork, he said no because I hadn't fasted. When I told him I had, he then said the lab was closed. As a lab professional, I was pretty disgusted with his quick dismissal. So here I am with difficulty swallowing and my nostrils on fire and raw. No relief after going to the "MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL" called William Schmalz. Beware, he is green and has a chip on his shoulder (probably from not getting into a US med school). STAY AWAY.
