My initial visit with Dr. Hofius was very professional and courteous. He took time to explain my issue and outlined a plan of treatment which included me instead of being dictated to me.

Receptionist was friendly, nurse was lacking bedside manor and knowledge, Doctor was very rude. The nurse or MA checked my blood pressure (158/90) and pulse. Did not check my temperature although I had expressed my concern for fever and persistent vomiting. I wouldn’t recommend him to anyone. I was seen for an infection/abscess that the ER told me needed to be treated by a general surgeon and they sent me to him. He was 40 minutes late, looked at the area of concern, discussed lancing the abscess. During his exam I was shaking so bad from both my fever and the extreme pain I was in, which was intensified by the doctor pressing on it/squeezing the area. He then asked me why I was shaking so bad and if I was in withdrawal from heroin. I almost walked out. He didn’t think lancing it would drain any pus, but landed it anyways and sure enough, I now have a packed wound that is draining pus. Not even thinking about his prior question, I asked if he could give me something for the pain. His nurse stated that he isn’t allowed to prescribe pain medication for such procedures. Now I’m home in bed, the lidocaine has worn off, and I’m in agony. I understand the opioid epidemic, however to deny pain relieving options to a patient you just cut into and stuffed dry gauze into the open wound is cruel and unreasonable.

Dr. Hofius is an a number one jerk. I went to his office for my follow up appointment and he showed up 2.5 hours late. Why is his time more important than my time? He is rude, arrogant and he is awful to his staff . His dogs are running around the office like they own the place. How sanitary is an office that has dogs in it?

I was told I had to have my gallbladder removed due to the pain I was having and Hofius was my surgeon. He showed up late for my surgery. I was in a hallway ready to go, having been spoken to by nurses and the anesthesiologist and we were all waiting. He arrived late in his motorcycle attire making no apologies. After my post op visit, I had some more questions and scheduled to see him. He was so rude and cocky, even with 2 interns present. I had bloating and wondered if it was normal; he said I had gained weight and couldn't I just go buy larger clothes. His answers were like that to all my questions as though he was showing off. Finally, I calmly said I felt he was being rude and that I didn't know why. At which point he literally asked me to leave his office, opened the door briskly for me to leave the exam room, was angrily yelling at me and asked the receptionis for my check and threw it at me as he literally pushed me out the door. Unbelievable!

Dr. Hofius removed a lump from my left breast for biopsy. It turned out to be benign, thankfully. He was very nice, explained everything to me, and he followed up after the surgery to make sure I was ok. You can’t even see the scar from the incision. He did a great job. I was surprised to read the other review for him on this site.

I was supposedly diagnosed with an enlarged gall bladder (by ultrasound only), that needed to be removed. Hofius was available to do surgery. Office visit was surprising because his dogs had free roaming priveleges. I should have left then, but was pretty sick and thought I needed immediate surgery. Surgery did not go well. I have recurring bad dreams and thoughts that I woke up during the surgery. It was supposed to be a 40 minute outpatient procedure that was almost 2 hours. Hofius gave a lame excuse of some complication, and didn't communicate much info anyway. In the recovery room, I awoke with extreme feelings of anger and dislike for Hofius. Can't explain it. I developed a hard lump at the site of an incision by my belly button, and complained to Hofius. He said it was fluid build up and used a needle to drain it. It never went away so I got a second oppinion which turned out to be a hernia and am scheduled for another surgery. Very unhappy.
