I would NOT recommend going to see Dr. Alberto Cataneda as he is very unprofessional and rude. I had to have a filling in one of my teeth. He handed me a device with a button and advised that if I feel any pain while he is drilling to push the button and it will stop the drill and he will evaluate if I need further shots to relieve the pain. I pushed the button twice and upon the 2nd time I pushed the button he started complaining about my pain tolerance. Note: I have a pretty high pain tolerance but it was clear that I did not have enough medication to relieve the pain. He then proceeded to tell me about one of his patients which is a chiropractor next door to his office. He told me how the chiropractor was such a baby and had a very poor pain tolerance. My mother is now seeing him and she had to have dentures. She has been dealing with getting dentures since December. This is now over 6 months. She has paid them a lot of money and has yet to see an itemized bill. In addition, she has had to pano scans of her mouth. The 2nd scan was because they lost the first scan. Now I am curious if he has submitted the 2nd scan via her insurance. I will now be taking action on behalf of my mother and will be contacting the insurance commissioner and possibly a lawyer. I would also like to mention that her dentures DO NOT fit properly. He first told her that the first set was a temporary set. She did not receive the top and the bottom at the same time. When she receive the bottom teeth a few weeks ago, they were so BIG she looked like a horse. She scheduled an appointment and he proceeded to shave down the teeth and one side of the denture is almost completely wore down. He then told her that these are the permanent teeth and if she wanted another set, she would have to pay for them. Again, I will be taking action as he is taking advantage of her and it is obvious he doesn't care since her shaved down one side of the denture almost completely down. It is time to stand up for my mother and believe me, I will.

Since my 1st appointment a few years ago to my most recent checkup- cleaning I'm extremely pleased with the dental care I received from Dr. Castaneda and the Discover Dental Team. Everyone is super friendly, helpful, professional, attentive to my needs, and provides exceptional dental work. I’m also impressed by how the dental team continues to learn and practice the best innovations in dentistry.
I never have to guess what costs will be as they are always thoroughly explain wither its coverage from my insurance and/or out-of-pocket. And when I have questions I always feel listened and cared for.
I also appreciate the little ways they make their waiting room comfortable and friendly with a little play room for kids, free coffee, fun art, and relaxing music.
It’s great having a dental team where I'm not just another mouth full of teeth!
If you are looking for a GREAT dentist and dental team for you and your family I highly recommend Dr. Castaneda and Discover Dental.

When I moved to KC it took quite a search to find a mercury-free dentist. Dr. Castaneda's office is professional, courteous, and communicative, while also being friendly and engaging. The staff acurately estimated my out of pocket charges that insurance wouldn't cover. Our positive experience keeps me driving all the way across the city to keep returning their for my dental care. The office is attractive, clean, and homey.

I went to see Dr. Castaneda just last month. I called the office and I was in pain. Cindy told me that she would check with Dr. Castaneda to see what time they could see me. Cindy was so kind and patient. cindy told me that karen would be with me in a moment. Karen was so helpful and told me that I could come right over, she also said that she could take my insurance information and they would get my benefits before I came to the office. When I arrived at the office Karen and Cindy and the hygienst, Kelly were at the front desk area, and they were all wonderful. I was offered Coffee, tea or hot coca while I filled out my paperwork. They explained to me what they had gathered from my insurance as I really do not understand all of that insurance stuff. Karen gave me an estimate for my crown, she explained to me that this was only an estimate. I had called other offices and they would not even attempt to help me with my insurance. I love this office! Dr. Castaneda is the best!

I highly recommend Dr. Castaneda. The Dr is extremely knowledgeable and had a lot of patience explaining the procedure to me. I felt confidant that I had chosen the right dentist. Once he performed my extraction, he called me at home that same night to check how I was doing. He also made it clear that I could call his office any time day or night if I needed to talk to him and his office would get in touch with him and he would immediately call me back. I checked Dr Castanedas' credentials before making the appointment and was pleased to see that he has more experience and knowledge than any other dentist in Shawnee and Kansas for that matter.

I had numerous questionable experiences with Mr. Castaneda as they consistently sent me bills after having me pay the estimates upfront, once for over $100 and I have good, common insurance so they should know what is going to be covered. The last straw was when the receptionist Karen claimed to have a conversation with me about moving up my appointment and when I showed up at the scheduled time they could not take me in. I called for an entirely different reason the day before the appointment and it just goes to show how dysfunctional and unorganized the office is.

I went into Dr. Castaneda's office with tooth pain. Upon leaving, I had the same pain and no real answers. He referred me to a periodontist which is likely needed, but not necessarily the cause of my pain. It was not until reminding him about my pain that he gave me a prescription for pain killers and antibiotics. Dr. Castaneda also determined that I need several fillings and might need all of my wisdom teeth removed. I will be seeking another dentist and another opinion. I would not recommend Dr. Castaneda unless you have lots of extra time, patience and money.

Dr. Castaneda and the team at Discover Dental Care is caring and friendly. Dr. Castaneda really took the time to listen to my concerns. During my first appointment he showed me all the decay that was under the sealants placed during my childhood. He took a picture of the teeth and showed me all the cavitites. I could not believe it! I am so glad I had Dr. Castaneda take care of this before it got any worse. He put in some nice tooth colored fillings and I was amazed at how natural they looked. I even had him replace my silver fillings that were giving me a bad taste in my mouth. At another appointment Dr Castaneda pulled out all my wisdom teeth in one visit. I was nervous at first, but before I knew it, it was over with! All I felt was some pressure. He did a great job making me feel comfortable. I am taking my whole family to Discover Dental Care now, and I would highly reccommend him. He really made sure I was comfortable and took the time to do a great job.
