Been here since Tuesday, no or poor communication, literally hold your prescription and check out info hostage before the doctor releases you so your insurance will have to pay another day. Archaic discharge system dependent on a doctor who I barely spoke tos availability. Almost illegal to be holding your RXs and instructions post care. Horrible, shady system

If you have a choice, do not let a family member go to this ER. My brother had what the EMT thought was a heart attack, had me do chest compressions, and rushed him to Lakewood. While I was looking for parking, an ER doctor called me to say, "Hurry, he's circling the drain." What followed was 23 hours of clown show, ending in death. Convinced he was dying--and he probably was--the doctor gave him a morphine drip and no other treatment because I told him no extreme measures. My brother was intellectually disabled with advanced Parkinson's. (Note: no one dies of Parkinson's. It does make you vulnerable to infections, etc., that must be treated.) The doctor interpreted DNR as "Do Not Treat." I called my brother's physician. Apparently he had to speak to the ER to get them to see my brother as a patient, not a corpse. I asked a nurse for a POLST form, so the hospital would know what I wanted--I didn't want him on a ventilator or to be prevented from a natural death by the use of an AED. The nurse said the form wasn't necessary, and wrote my wishes down on a post it. (A doctor has to discuss the POLST form with a patient or their representative. Impossible when no doctor actually comes near the patient.) After they began to treat him, NO DOCTOR spoke to me about what the problem was, or what they were doing about it. They took a chest Xray. No pneumonia. They did blood draws, and thought his kidneys were failing. His doctor said the results were ambiguous, so it wasn't likely. They started him on a heparin drip (used to prevent clotting). When I asked the nurse whether they thought he had a blood clot in his lungs or heart, he said I'd have to talk to the doctor. Again, no doctor was available to tell me what they were doing and why. Ten hours later, a technician performed an ultrasound of his heart. You'd think if someone came in with a possible heart problem, you'd do that first. A few hours later, after I'd left the hospital to run home and come back, the ER doctor told me he was dead, and I'd better hurry to the ER, if I wanted to see him before he went to the morgue. I asked him why he would say someone was "circling the drain" to the family of a dying patient, his response was, "Someone else said it, and I repeated it." When I got to the hospital, my brother was lying uncovered on the bed. The door to the room was open, and there was no curtain or screen to keep the patients who were crowded around the door--waiting for treatment--from staring at his dead body. (Lakewood has screens. But only living patients deserve privacy, I guess.) My brother was treated disrespectfully from start to finish. I'm not sure if his life wasn't considered valuable because of the Parkinson's, his intellectual disability, or how bad he was when he reached the hospital. I asked the doctor what he died of. The answer? "Uh...Parkinson's." (Again, Parkinson's is not a direct cause of death. It could have been his heart, his lungs, his kidneys. I guess I'll have to wait for the death certificate to find out, if I ever do.) The hospital reacted quickly to another review. I got an email from the Patient Safety Officer saying he couldn't change the experience, but the doctor and nurses were reminded to be "more mindful." Apparently, requiring a doctor to act like a human being and communicate their diagnosis and course of treatment to the medical decision maker doesn't come into it.

WORST EXPERIENCE. NO ONE TOLD ME ABOUT THIS PORTAL. RECEPTIONIST UNPROFESSIONAL TOLD ME IF I LEFT ALL MY RECORDS AND VISIT WAS IN VAIN AND I WOULD HAVE TO DO ALL OVER AGAIN. MY TESTS WERE FINE IN FIRST HOUR.. WHY WAS I THERE FOR 7 HOURS.. AnD THREATENED BY A DRUNK PATIENT WHO EVENTUALLY ATTACKED ONE OF US.. WHY WAS I THERE 7 HOURS AND THEY TOLD ME THAT IF I DIDN'T WAIT FOR MY PAPER IT WOULD BE TRASHED.. WHY WAS THERE A SECURITY GUARD THAT WAITED FOR THIS CREASED DRUNK GUY TO ATTACK ONE OF US B4 HE DECIDED TO TAKE ACTION.. WHY WAS THE UNPROFESSIONAL NURSES FLIRTING WITH THIS CRAZY MAN AND HAPPILY TELLING HIM THAT HE GRABBED THEIR PRIVATE PARTS AND THEY WERE LAUGHING LIKE IT WAS OK. I GAVE NEVER IN MY LIFE SEEN SUCH Unprofessional. I'M APPALLED. Zero PLUZ Minus 5 STARS. HORRIBLE Experience.. I shouldn't have even first of all been there 7 hours when what I was waiting for was really available on this perusal and no one told me that. I could go infact they warned me of I did my visit was going to be of no use and I would have to come back so all this all over again.. The woman sitting by the wall on the right side told me.. She was the receptionist. She did not once mention the portal when she knew what I was waiting for and I was ok to leave as I wasn't under observation.. Ur was cold outside and wet were in danger.. I also told her I didn't feel comfortable with this crazy dude outside for no reason instead of being told to leave.. What is going on with this place.. They need to close it down or reconsider their lazy unprofessional staff. Provide more training And to maintain their respect not be out there.

DO NOT COME HERE!! AVOID!! I was taken here after overdosing on 64MG of Klonopin, a benzodiazepine in an attempt to commit suicide. When I was admitted I could barely walk, think or stand up. I felt sick and horrible. The hospital staff called poison control but did nothing to help me. And as the sedatives of the benzo kicked in I knocked out. When I took a urine test, it came out negative stating that I had no signs of any benzodiazepines in my system which was impossible because I take it everyday for anxiety and I also overdosed on it to attempt suicide. When I asked for another urine test to be taken I was declined and treated rudely by the nurses. I called my mother who complained to a nurse on the front desk Emmie, who told my mother that I was a liar and I didn't take the meds, she also told my mother that they would not treat me because "IV fluids, stomach pumps or any sort of treatments for overdoses are only done in movies". My friend have overdosed before and they said they give one pill to hell counteract the effects. I also threw up my food while eating and they told my family that I was fine and didn't throw up. And cleared me medically. When I woke up I was on my phone reading a book to help avoid my anxiety and adhd from acting up. They took that as "I was fine". However when I got admitted to the mental hospital after for 5150 all the nurses there all noticed my inability to walk properly, process and retain information, have any sort of proper cognitive thinking, and more. I was in a dark place and needed help, they invalidated me and made me feel horrible. Never come here they will treat you horribly and neglect you. The nurse also messed up taking my blood and let it spill leaving rashes, irritation and an infected bump. Terrible. The doctors and psychologist only saw me for about a second and didn't listen to anything I had to say. Additionally, my family is a licensed pharmacist who stated that klonopin will NOT show up in the urine that soon within but rather in 72 hours after since it wasn't in my system yet as I just immediately swallowed it . I'm taking another urine test from an urgent care soon and I will sue you for negligence and medical malpractice.

I am a triple bypass patient, unfortunately I was transported to Lakewood Hospital, they were taken over by UCI a few months ago, in 2023 we were going to shut it down, for a multitude of violations, UCI saved them as a patient trying to be transported to my hospital has now become a legal matter as a legislative candidate for State Assembly I will be putting forth an investigation into this horrible care facility or just pushing to have it closed as we should have a year ago
