The Royal has deleted almost all reviews. To echo the most recent (deleted) sentiments: I have emailed Jackie Desroches' patient advocacy 4 times since Nov 2022 and received NO reply. I only got into detox through an advocate. While very much in need of the concurrent disorders program, I was hastily voted out at the ~royal roundtable~ by the ~professionals~ who deemed me either “too difficult” or “not high-risk” enough. Much to my surprise and dismay, I met 3/9 other patients on the unit, who were also refused intensive services, despite severe addiction issues. One individual came in under the impression they would be attending CDU and when voiced the confusion in the group to a social worker was told by him that this was unfortunately, simply protocol: he has to clarify for most people coming in that admission to CDU requires additional approval. My physician referred me back to my GP upon discharge, you know, the same one who referred me to the Royal for help in the first place. The social worker (who only ran one group during my 7-day stay) rejected patient feedback and emphasized to the group that many people relapse within as short as 24 hours after discharge…what a way to instill hope for all of us unable to access further resources. During my stay, there was virtually no programming and absolutely no relapse-prevention planning. Be prepared for cold food, cold rooms (sleeping in your winter coat), and god forbid you to have BPD, as physicians intimidate, humiliate, and perpetuate the discourse of untreatability surrounding this illness. If you don’t believe me, just consult one of the many supporting research documents below: https://www.researchgate.net/publication/348494016_Structural_stigma_and_its_impact_on_healthcare_for_consumers_with_Borderline_Personality_Disorder_protocol_for_a_scoping_review PS. Appx 4 hrs after upload, the Royal website on Google deleted this review ;)

Royal Ottawa Mental Health Centre denying their patients the right to change their bad doctor and forcing the patient to accept their manipulative doctor. A doctor that treat their patient with disrespect, intimidation and lies. This is a serious issue that effect the patient and increase their suffering. These bad doctors who cause the patient more pain and suffering should be account responsible fo their behavior. They even lies and create a fake story to destroy their patient and bring them back to the hospital to take advantage even more. Everyone has to be aware of what's some doctors at the royal Ottawa is doing. The Hospital administration forcing the patient to stay with bad doctors who caused these poor patients to suffer and ignor their compliant.

This hospital will innacurately and destructively lander your medical records and history and your expense. The programs are nothing less than info gathering systems meant to provide the "elite" with corruptive power over you and your life. This hospital made things destructively worse than better going against the Hippocratic oath . Your better off going on a vacation than here .

Do not trust these people with your personal information. I repeatedly asked and was told my file would not be shared with my GP if I didn't want. I signed a form requesting a lock on my file. Despite precautions, they sent my whole chart to my GP with every sordid detail of my sexual abuse, drug use, etc and got major things wrong. Said I was sexually abused by my father and I wasn't. My GP knows my whole family. They even wrote that I don't like or trust my GP. Also wrote I was faking my pain despite providing them with my diagnostic records showing a severe and painful disease. They did NOT accommodate my disability, so many days I didn't eat because I couldn't make it to breakfast. They refused to save food for me or allow me to eat in my room when I couldn't walk. I had to argue to get a commode in my room despite peeing over 60x per day. They discarded my longest standing diagnosis to get me off a medication. They took every patient off this medication because the doctor did not believe in ADHD. I was not able to re-enter the workforce without this medication. There were some really nice nurses and most of the healing I did was through my relationships with the other patients but the trauma and shame caused by sharing my personal information without my permission was beyond destructive.

This is a research hospital with free services and programs . When it comes to your addictions detox or story envolving your journey to sobriety be careful what you tell them anything degrading or humiliating will be smeared on your health records for life . Often too with such serious important info it will be wrong or innacurate . The nurse said I was raped twice by two men at 18. Both digits wrong. If your going to write something make it accurate and not just for the phone of humiliating and degrading addicts who just because they lived a life is struggle does not mean you can just oprress them. Good advice since you don't know till it's too late and all your info is wrong . Dr ares and Howard

Thé inpatient detox is literally a medical lab who use patients like rats being tested. They Only care about you being doped up on benzos snd making sure you sleep a lot. If you disagree or ask to speak to a doctor the nurses ( Lorna.Dan. Beatrice. Etc) Will not listen to patient needs. I went there with minimal problems and came out feeling worse and suicidal. The lack of professionalism and problem solving is just mind blowing. DO NOT go to the detox or Ram clinic as they are all useless worst hospital I’ve ever had to interact with. Unprofessional and unsafe environment. All the good nurses and doctors have retired. I would give a 0 if it was an option. Do not recommend!!

This place does not take into consideration patient's needs. Talking to the doctors there is like talking to a brick wall. They don't care about their patients. They are inconsiderate towards their patients. Their diagnosis are insulting. They don't give care plans that actually take into consideration the patient's long term wellbeing. They are not mindful to their patients. They diagnose people and send them home. This facility is a shame.

Avoid. After being told I am one of those who don't respond to anti-depressants the psychiatrist promptly proscribed anti-depressants. Over a year later I am still awaiting my request for further treatment.
