Greater Niagara General Hospital

am writing this review as a family member of a vulnerable senior patient with early dementia who was admitted to Rainbow A Unit (ALC / Complex Care) at Niagara Falls Hospital for rehabilitation. What we experienced was deeply concerning. My loved one reported multiple incidents of mistreatment by nursing staff, including a nurse throwing a urinal at him when he asked for assistance, several nurses ganging up and surrounding him in an intimidating manner, and one nurse physically pushing him while threatening to put him “outside in the rain and leave him there in the middle of the yard.” These events were captured on video and significantly worsened his dementia symptoms and emotional state. When family attempted to advocate for a transfer to a more appropriate facility closer to home and for proper care, staff became aggressive. The ward manager physically pushed a family member, and security and police were called, resulting in a distressing confrontation. The hospital refused reasonable requests for transfer or discharge despite the patient’s clear wishes and ongoing harm. The lack of accountability, poor communication, and failure to provide a safe, dignified environment for a frail elderly patient with cognitive issues is unacceptable. Rainbow A Unit felt chaotic and unsafe, with little regard for patient comfort or family concerns. Niagara Health needs urgent reform in how they handle vulnerable seniors in transitional care. I strongly recommend families be extremely vigilant if a loved one is placed on this unit. We will be pursuing all available avenues for accountability.

I had a recent stay at the Niagara General Hospital and found overall the staff was very friendly and efficient. But one nurse went above and beyond and her name was Johncey. She was so caring and helpful. What a great person.

Great to see that the NHS recognizes that when they have families at their lowest points, they can still hold them hostage for parking, great job you money whores .

While i recognize the pressures on providing service, its no excuse for poorly trained PSW’s who dont seem to care and handle patients like live stock. The PSW had to be embarrased by a coworker to come and assist with a transfer, also the PSW was not wearing the correct colour scrubs, nor did he change his gloves before assisting. I could perfom a two person lift better than he did. Disgusting.

I grew up there, not a better hospital and the doctors and nurses were always helpful

I went to GNGH ER this morning because of a hearing aid tip stuck in my right ear, causing increasing discomfort. I was very impressed and pleased with every aspect of my care, and with every one of the staff I dealt with. The physician who took care of me really knew what she was doing, chose the exact right instrument, and was able to extract the hearing aid tip on her first try. Immediate relief for me. Excellent from start to finish.

I would give this hospital a 5 star 🌟 except for the rudeness caulkiness of one of the triage nurses and one er doctor who dropped the ball. Other wise the remaining we staff were top notch. Unfortunately we had to wait wait wait but that is because of our gov, cutbacks and no staff available. So you can’t complain to the hospital of the wait time. I watched how the staff took care of the homeless people that came in, care, compassion, if I did not see it with my own eyes I would not believe it. Absolutely amazing. The nursing staff on the third floor (brock unit) amazing. Again the care, compassion that each and every one showed. Never saw an angry or rude nurse. We were so amazed that one evening we purchased pizza for the entire staff and the next day purchased (turtle jacks in Niagara Falls ) wraps and fries. These people are on their feet for 12 hour shifts. Thank you third floor 👏👏👏👏👏 . Yes my sister is still in hospital but I know she will be taken Care of. Thank ER Dr. Shaw, ER Nurse Phoebe, and Specialist Dr Hamour.

I was disgusted with the dirtyness of the emergency ward.Looks like a carpet in the vents ,ceiling tiles.No wonder why people get sick there breathing in that filth.I understand there moving but that doesnt mean u dont clean .

The rooms are dirty patient lays in bed sick barely see the nurses to questions. No psw come around it f you need a bath given wet wipes to clean. It’s so old the er is bad too. Patients released no idea what’s wrong with them it’s like a third world country hospital.

It was dirty and I did not feel safe in the ER. It is clearly a broken system.
