in my first visit with Dr Lowes I explained my symptoms as I had to my previous doctor 14 years earlier (albeit a lot worse due to the degenerative nature of my affliction). Where my first doctor told me that my symptoms were due to me getting older (36 at the time) or previous injuries. Dr Lowes immediately ordered blood tests and found the problem. Looking at the blood tests he ordered i can only conclude that he knew from the symptoms and just needed confirmation from the blood tests. Treatment followed very quickly, Dr Lowes listened to me and never dismissed my thoughts on how my treatment was going. when I felt that I needed more he voiced his opinion but respected mine. Given my experience with my previous Doctor i can only conclude that, if I had not had the good fortune to have Dr Lowes as a Doctor, I would be severely ill if not dead. It is no exaggeration to say that Dr Lowes has made a significant positive influence in my life and I (and my children) can not thank him enough for that Dr Lowes was/is very compassionate and professional in all dealings I have had with him.

I have 25 years plus, longterm genital nerve pain disability due to severe endometriosis. After spending 3 visits with dr Darran Lowes, explaining my nerve pain, he said, and I quote" Why is it that every time I see you, you are in pain". From this point on I have refused to see him. Before this last comment, he had said that he'd reduce my pain medication by 3%. He has continued to reduce them to over 50% without any further discussion. No-one has contacted me to see how I was going. The only contact has been nurses berating me on the phone, teling me that if I don't do this and that, Dr Lowes won't give me a prescription. I asked him if he could find out some information for me. He didn't bother. So I found out where to go to get a specific MRI scan. I organized the referral. I also suggested trialing compounded suppositories that have ben used by leading surgeonsin France, but he refused to try this option. He is arrogant, unempathetic, archaic, and unwilling to learn. I'm not sure how he managed to pass med school exams. I had to fly down to Wellington with my father, to see a knowledgeable pain specialist who has continued to help manage my pain, with up to date medications as well. I'd be 6 ft under if I hadn't bypassed Lowes and sought professional help. I hope he has to endure chronic nerve pain sometime in his life and when he asks for help, they slam the door on his face and tell him, they don't believe he has pain.
