Ratings for Dr. Kathryn Andrusky
Dr. Andrusky has been my GP for several years now. Unfortunately, a recent health crisis has caused me to consider finding a new family doctor. When I went for my annual physical in June 2016, she felt it was not necessary to run the usual tests as the ones the previous year were normal. I guess this is called "best practice" rationale. I continued to feel unwell for the rest of the year, and visited her office in November 2016 at which time bloodwork, ultrasounds and X-rays were urgently ordered. By 3 pm on the same day of that appointment/testing, Dr. Andrusky's nurse called me to tell me that I needed to go to the nearest ER for a blood transfusion. I would have expected Dr. Andrusky to call me herself with a little more explanation than that! Thus began the most scariest ordeal of my life. I was admitted to hospital the same day for transfusions and told I had a large mass on one ovary/suspected ovarian cancer. I was referred to the Cross Cancer Institute and a little over two weeks later, I had surgery to remove the 30 cm mass, as well as a complete hysterectomy and removal of ovaries. Miraculously, the tumour was found to be benign and I am recovering nicely. However, not once during my recent health crisis did Dr. Andrusky call or check in on me to see how I was doing. Her disregard for my wellbeing has me looking for a more caring and compassionate family doctor. :(
I am very dissapointed with the style of care offered today. I came down with a horrible infection last night. When I called to make an appointment to see the Dr today, I was informed that since I had not been in for an annual checkup, that this was not possible. And the earliest they could get me in for an annual exam was 16 days into the future. So when asked if the office sends reminders for the patients to book an annual exam they said no, there is too many patients to do that for. As a healthy patient who does not require care all that often. The one time in the past 3 years that I desperately need attention, I am turned away. This is a very backward way of doing business that is essentially setting the patient behind profits.
Kathryn Andrusky ( notice I did not address her as Doctor !) Either she is off speaking at conferences / hospitals or on Medical leave or Holidays or TWITTER! Not sure why she has a practice other than the fact she can charge people for a missed or late appointment. Her office can call and cancel your appointment 20 minutes before the time but if you try that you are charged. You are left waiting for her but if you look on line she is on twitter asking people to provide feed back on Alberta health and how to improve it. DO your JOB Katheryn treat the patience you have that have entrusted you with their health stop making them wait for months on end to TRY and get a phantom appointment that most likely will be cancelled in the end, also look at the turn around of medical assistants she has ? I do not think they like to work with her either because they are the ones taking the complaints from the patience not her! IT is a sad day when you can not even get proper medical care anymore!
She is the most unreliable doctor I have ever had, she has cancelled on me 4 times this year, and I have had 4 bookings. So I have yet to see her this year. If I did what she does I would be charged a penalty each time based on their cancellation policy. They always offer up Dr. Lui - who I met a few years back when Dr. Andrusky cancelled on me and I found him rude he immediately told me I had 15 minutes! Time for a new doctor.
I am absolutely fed up with Dr. A. It takes like 2-3 weeks to get in with her. She has cancelled almost every single one of my appointments with very little notice and with no attempt to reconcile by trying to get me in asap; so, I have to wait the 2-3 weeks again. She is a teaching doctor and her assistant will not tell you if there is a student. The student will just arrive by themself, assess the situation, and go get dr. A. At the beginning of my seeing her, I was getting bladder infections almost weekly, and up until then, I had dealt strictly with female students, but to my surprise, a male doctor walks in alone. I was humiliated. Afterwards I called the assistant and told her that I would like her to inform me thay there would be a student because I am not comfortable with men. The assistant reamed me out and told me that if I didn't like it, I could find a new doctor. Wow. Further down the road I booked another appointment; this time for a full physical. Once again, the assistant didn't tell me there was a student, but I took it upon myself to ask. Sure enough it was a male. So I asked to opt out. The assistant (a new assistant from the last time) was very friendly and told me not a problem. So I disrobed and waited to be seen. Dr Andrusky came into the room and immediately started to lecture me about how I am not allowed to opt out of having the student present. Are you freaking kidding me?? I am rape survivor, and even if I wasn't, it is my RIGHT to say who gets to touch my body. PLUS I went to see her about getting a referral to a phychiatrist, and she flat out refused. "I don't give out referrals unless you need medication". Wow. Do NOT see Dr. Andrusky if you have issues with mental health, or troubles with trusting men.
reading through other people's reviews, it made me realize I'm not the only one who has suffered from her lack of professionalism. She has cancelled five appointments in a row and is very unreliable. She has a policy of answering only two questions per visit, which seems odd especially since you can barely get in to see her. Multiple questions could be symptoms related to the same issue, so I don't see why she wouldn't want to know all the facts before pumping you full of pills. I feel that sometimes her students are more knowledgeable and have a better bedside manner than she does.
Horrible bedside manner and hard to get an appointment. Will charge you a fee if cancelling appointment and will not see you until you pay her the money.... for a physician to do that is horrible and a strain on the emergency room wait times.
