I have learned to mistrust Doctors due to bad experiences. I love this man and trust him with ANYTHING. He is the best across the board. He delivers old fashioned patient centered care which is unlike the vast majority of practices. GO to him and decide for yourself . PLEASE GO!!

I found Dr. O'Connell to be professional and extremely competent. He was always very upfront with me and did allow my opinions and desires to be part of a treatment plan. He has always treated me with respect and has listened to my concerns. He is my doctor and with all due respect, not my friend. I go to this MD because he is good and treats me well.

Dr. O'Connell is very suited for academia. He is very smart; however, he is not suited, in my opinion, for clinical practice. I went to him when my Pcp left practice. It has been a very horrible experience. I could write a book; however I consider myself fortunate to learn of his tactics, ethics, and personal issues early on.

He allows his religion (Catholic) to interfere with his practice of medicine. He will not give a prescription for Viagra/Cialis to a man in his seventies because he says the man is not married. The man is impotent due to prostate cancer. His job is to be a doctor and not a judge of moral character.

I have nothing but praise for Dr. O'Connell. He worked tirelessly to diagnose my problems including seeing me in the office on short notice after normal business hours. He even personally called several times to check on me. He consulted specialists to assist in diagnosing my problem and was not too proud to admit it when he didn't have the answer. His goal was to help me get better and not to stroke his own ego. Thanks to his coordinated effort and hard work, my problem was solved with a simple surgery. I still see Dr. O'Connell and know that my health is in good hands.

I would only recommend going to Dr. Patrick O'Connell if you don't care about being double-billed for one office visit. The more you "talk" to him about, the more you will be billed. The office staff at Duke Medicine on Creedmoor Rd. at this practice are useless. They don't answer their phone and most of the time won't return phone calls. The doctor tells the billing people how to "handle" an irate patient in explaining why they are being double-billed. Do yourself a favor and find another doctor at another practice, preferably away from Duke Medicine, since Duke Medicine allows its doctors to double-bill.

Do not see him if you want to live. He almost killed me. After 3 years of seeing him I chose to go to a different doctor. Because everything he would always say take something over the counter. You don't need to check your blood suger. When I went to the new doctor for the first time I was sent straight to the hospital and had emergency surgery. The over the counter meds did not work.By the way it was colon cancer. And all Dr O'connell would say was take more Iron. It's just hemorrhoids.
