Australia and abroad specialising in Spine surgery, Hip and Knee Reconstruction surgery. He received his basic medical doctorate degree from Otago University, New Zealand with faculty scholarship in Medicine and was awarded prestigious Otago-Scandinavian Faculty Research Fellowship at Karolinska Institute, Stockholm where he completed research on Neonatal Brain Injury at the renowned Alfred Nobel Huddinge Hospital Research Lab. Following his medical degree, he worked at the Alfred Hospital in Melbourne, Australia going through his residency in surgery completing basic surgical training with the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons. Dr. Choi completed his Orthopaedic Surgery training in 2012 and completed accredited Australian Orthopaedic Association Fellowship in Hip and Knee reconstruction in Wagga Wagga, NSW with Dr. Kerin Fielding and Prof. Adrian Van der Rijt. He then travelled internationally for a year undertaking clinical fellowship at the prestigious Hong Kong University at Queen Mary Hospital under Prof. K Luk & Prof. K Cheung and then AO fellowship at Catholic University of Korea, St Mary's hospital with Prof. K Y Ha. He was also the recipient of Spine Society of Australia Fellowship Grant and Kokubun visiting spine fellowship at Tohoku University in Sendai, Japan. \r\nHe is currently Annual Meeting Chair for the Society of Lateral Access Surgery (SOLAS) in Asia Pacific and serves as an editor for the Asian Spine Journal. He teaches regularly for AO Spine Foundation both locally and internationally serving as an active faculty member to promote Minimally Invasive Spine Surgery and Complex Spine Surgery. He has been an active member for Spine Society of Australia (SSA), Australian Orthopaedic Association (AOA), North American Spine Society (NASS), SOLAS, AO Spine. \r\nHe has also international patents on Spinal implant designs and commercially launched several successful medical devices with industry partners including NuVasive Lateral Crestline project, Aegis Acceloc Cage, NuVasive Lateral ALIF/X360 project as well as the upcoming NuVasive Navigation/Robotics platform Pulse Project. \r\nHe is also the lead in Globus GPS Excelsius Robotic Spine Surgery programme at Peninsula Private Hospital where the first on its kind in the Southern hemisphere / first for Asia Pacific was launched in 2019. \r\nHe believes in patient centred surgical approach with tailored management solutions to minimise the trauma of surgery and faster recovery to enhance patient experiences in spine surgery. \r\nHe regularly engages in teaching and research and has an active Fellowship programme with the Australian Institute of Musculoskeletal Sciences (AIMS) to host international surgeons to learn his craft on an annual basis.
