I saw Dr Simons for a thyroid problem. I had a complete set of blood tests whose raised thyroid peroxidase levels indicated an autoimmune condition and an iodine loading test showing a severe deficiency. He did not look at any of the labs, except for the iodine, which he said he didn't use. He read a list of symptoms, ticked some boxes, didn't listen to my explanations. He diagnosed subclinical hypothyroidism, ignoring the peroxidase, and described it as "not urgent". If he bothered reading the journals he would have seen the many studies linking SCH with heart disease in older women. That's urgent. I am one. He offered me synthetic T4, which I had already tried, and seemed unaware of its link with breast cancer. He had never heard of Natural Dessicated Thyroid. When I refused his pill he referred me to a London hospital. The letter he wrote my GP was not only subliterate, but indicated he hadn't listened. "He was useless," I told my GP. "I know," she said."I saw the letter".
