husband was admitted to GRH in August 2023 with a bowel blockage. He is a stage 4 metastatic cancer patient and we are experienced with bowel blockages. My husband was undergoing radium treatments at this time and the treatment schedule is not flexible. Dr. Torres came into my husband’s room at 5:30 pm on a Friday which was 2.5 days after his admission. She said “we’ll operate tonight” and immediately left the room. I had to follow her out and confront Dr. Torres in the hallway and asked if she’d read my husband’s medical history. She informed me she had not had time. I explained that at this point we weren’t agreeing to surgery. My husband has been given a year to live and if he has bowel surgery his recovery would be 6-12 months if he survives. We never saw her again, a different surgeon followed my husband after that and he agreed to try “pump & Suck.” It worked but took 8-days. He was hospitalized 10-days and came home without any long recovery.
