Ratings for Dr. Enass N. Rickards
Good surgeon, but questionable ethics and poor patient interactions. She was the on-call surgeon at the ER, but could not be bothered to arrive for a shattered ankle at night. She instead advised taking pain killers and coming in for a consultation at her office the following day. She then confirmed the trimalleolar fracture and schedule surgery at her preferred surgery center another day later. This place, Outpatient Surgery Center of La Jolla, was horrific. Their first priority was extracting maximum up-front payment at the treat of denying care (with insurance paying for the majority of the bill) and then threatened with collections after consistent large payments. Dr. Rickards showed up over an hour late for the scheduled surgery, which staff had warned was normal. While she was successfully with the surgery, after months of dismissed complaints of pain surrounding the hardware, she finally agreed to remove the plate and screws. Dr. Rickards always seemed very rushed with us and late to most every appointment. Only after the hardware was removed, she finally admitted it was the right call. The removal of the hardware eliminated the pain, and it was frustrating that she was so dismissive. In retrospect, the most disturbing fact was that she was fine with letting someone sit with shattered bones for days to be transferred to her preferred surgery center rather than treat a severe injury in a timely manner at a location that does not have such a pushy and cruel surgery center.
