We took my 7-year-old to him. Our son was stimming wildly in Blouin's presence. Blouin explained that this was not unusual and that we were worrying unnecessarily. It took us years to discover that our son has childhood disintegrative disorder (autism symptoms). This was almost 2 decades ago when autism was a less pervasive problem. But a mother of an autistic child reported that she had had a similar experience with this physician recently. I cannot verify the mother's experience, but even back when we were misinformed, a neurologist should have recognized stimming in an autistic child. Autism is a neurological disorder. Hearing that the mother of an autistic child had recently had a similar experience prompted my report.
