Ratings for Dr. Martin Spencer
Dr Spencer never treated my glaucoma. When I asked a question he said: "I don't know", and left the room. A new ophthalmologist I'm seeing diagnosed "significant damage" to my eyesight due to Spencer's negligence. This was confirmed by a second eye doctor I saw. I strongly advise against seeing this doctor.
Dr. Martin Spencer completely missed my glaucoma diagnosis. I went to him four years ago because my excellent optometrist referred me to him suspecting glaucoma. Dr. Spencer not only did not catch my glaucoma on time, but furthermore insisted for years that I did not have glaucoma and the symptoms that I had (all of them indicating glaucoma) were "common". Last year I went back to my optometrist and he was very concerned when he heard that Dr. Spencer "insisted" that I did not have glaucoma. My optometrist suspected strongly that I did and it was worst. He referred me to the glaucoma specialist Dr. Piemontesi. To my dismay Dr. Piemontesi diagnosed my glaucoma immediately as"Moderate to Advanced stage". He put me on eye drops treatment right away for a year, hoping that the pressure in the optical nerve would diminish. Unfortunately, it did not diminish enough and I had to have laser surgery. Thankfully it has not progressed thanks to the treatment that Dr. Piemontesi has administered. I feel extremely grateful to my optometrist (rated as great on a separate page) for catching the problem and so diligently insisting that he continued to strongly suspect glaucoma and referring me to Dr. Piemontesi. I am glad that my optometrist caught it and dismayed that the ophtalmologist Dr. Spencer missed it for four years! I am extremely upset to think that my glaucoma could have been arrested four years ago when it first started and horrified with the idea that if not for the diligence and excellence of my optometrist, I would not have been diagnosed at all and would have eventually lost my vision. I strongly recommend everyone who is experiencing vision problems and seeing Dr. Spencer to seek a second opinion. Dr. Piemontesi is an excellent opthalmologist, (Rated separately) and specializes in glaucoma and cataracts. If not for the professionalism and excellence of my optometrist and the expert care of Dr. Piemontesi my glaucoma would have progresssed to the Advanced stage and I might be blind now. You will be in good hands with Dr. Piemontesi, and it just might save your vision! Good luck!
Dr. Spencer is caring and efficient, if a little rushed most of the time. He has helped me but with no real advice or recommendations on how to treat my eye problems. His technician is very arrogant and a bit of a know it all. Overall I liked him.
when dr spencer is unsure of something he becomes annoyed and seems to takes it out on his patient!, me! he seems grumpy and not very interested in helping . I truly found him rude and impatient. I might be able to forgive him as he is very busy and always rushed, he needs to be paid more per patient and take more time trying to fix the issue. His staff are excellent, most of them, one in particular is arrogant in my opintion. Another thing, dr spencer is at least a good follow up doctor and does his best to ensure patients are seen on a regular basis.
I have been a glaucoma patient of Dr Spencer for many years. His long-term staff team manage his appointments courteously and effectively, and also perform vision / pressure tests in a most professional, efficient and accurate manner. Dr Spencer has treated and monitored my eye condition over a long period of time performing several surgeries when necessary and referring me to other surgeons for second opinions etc. In my view Dr Spencer is an excellent doctor. I have great respect for Dr Spencer's career long commitment to SEVA an international organization delivering eye care in the developing world. In this time he has been very involved in setting up eye clinics in remote areas, performing surgery and training eye doctors.
What a waste of time. I have dry eyes, which have caused enormous problems in my life, but he was completely unsympathetic (telling me it was only a "nuisance"), did not offer anything useful (as if nothing could be done) other than regular eye drops, seemed to know nothing about new research or treatment options, told me my symptons "didn't make sense" and sent me home. DO NOT got to this man if you have dry eye. He only wants to see the "serious" patients.
