Ratings for Dr. Mario D. Chorak
I saw Mario Chorak for 2+ years (he now works for Risas Dental and Braces in Phoenix, Arizona). Reviews on Google, RateMDs, and Healthgrades for him echo similar experiences. The consultation was pushy, lacked info, and rushed like a done deal, not an optional choice with time to think. My gut told me not to do this. Chorak never put customers first and gave vague answers. He thought in the short-term, that braces would solve all problems, never mentioning health, side effects, or downsides. I had to do my own research, had very little say, was not heard, valued, or given space to speak freely. He was distracted, made non-transparent decisions, treated patients like children who did not know best, their complaints like trifles they would soon get over. A relative and I only wanted teeth to be functional but staff insulted our teeth, assuming everyone hates theirs and wants a glamor smile. He pacified by overpromising and under-delivering. When I got braced, he lied that cement on my molars' biting surface would be removed next time. He knew it needed to stay on to the end or else my teeth would hit brackets biting down. Most of his young "techs" were interns who experimented on mouths (not in the contract) and were different each time. My braces were applied by an unintelligible, condescending gal who needed help. A bracket came off a few days later when I was only drinking water but was blamed by her. Another tech often blamed me for her shoddy work. The staff whispered, laughed, and paused work on patients to discuss inappropriate topics. Chorak danced with them in the office in front of all, rarely checked their final work, and cut costs whenever he could, to the patient's detriment. While being prepped for a procedure once, an older patient came in crying due to an issue. Chorak patronized her as if she were exaggerating. My tech kept rolling her eyes but never told him I was ready, though he knew I was; thus, anesthetic was left in my mouth too long, numbing my vocal chords and epiglottis so it could not close. Swallowing made saliva go down my windpipe. I was coughing and choking (not an allergy; I had anesthetic before), barely able to tell my tech but she laughed, brushed it off, and walked away. Chorak was too busy joking about money with the blonde accountant to notice. I almost called 911. I now have choking PTSD. No one was trained in first aid including recognizing someone in distress. Instead, funds were spent on staff trips to Vegas and Hawaii. Their lack of professionalism was a liability. Henceforth, a relative sat nearby for safety and to lessen Chorak bullying. Once, a tech was sitting at a computer a few stations down from me. Chorak approached and leaned over her shoulder, getting way too close with his head almost touching her. She was uncomfortable and stiffened, brushing him off. He walked away but came back, trying to flirt with her. She eventually got up, and with her back to him, rolled her eyes. My tech, the former office manager, noticed and sighed in frustration, shifting in agitatation and pausing work twice to watch this. Receptionist Celina during Covid once declared my temperature was "elevated" in the full waiting room, ostracizing me, but did not say what and stopped my tech from seeing me, until it went down after. To enter their contests, patients had to Like their Facebook, make a YouTube testimonial, or write a "nice review" (mostly parents speaking for their kids). Incentivizing promotion is dishonest, unethical, and potentially illegal. They also gave a print-out requesting apple sauce, mac and cheese, etc. donations for "local families in need" that went back into their own new patient "goodie bags" (often expired). Braces created problems I did not have before—flared lower teeth and lip making liquids/food drip out, lip incompetence, biting my cheeks/tongue, a whistled "S", difficulty speaking/brushing, spraying, stuck food, clenching, jaw pain, tooth sensitivity, and a painful pressure point when biting. For the last two, Chorak used his favored reply: "It will go away after the braces are off." A year later, they were off and I complained again about the pressure. Using an unknown term so I would not object, he ground down the tooth as a quick fix but it did not address the root cause. I went back and he defensively blamed me not wearing my retainers, my teeth moving after braces, saying he "did make adjustments" (all false). He never balanced my bite throughout treatment and just used ink ribbon at the end. The Invisalign he then used made things worse so I stopped going. I stopped wearing anything, and after a few years, these problems have almost entirely dissipated!
I am a 57 year old female that went to Dr. Mario Chorak for invisalign. I originally had 44 total trays and had to move out of state on tray 34. I had paid Dr. Chorak in full - over $5000. Dr Chorak personally told me on one of my final visits that when I moved, they would prorate my payments to the new orthodontist that I chose in Omaha. Needless to say, Fairwood Orthodontics said one thing but did not follow through. They kept all the money AND continued to bill my insurance company even after I no longer used their services. On top of that, my new orthodontist has to order 12 more invisalign trays because my teeth aren't tracking like they were supposed to. The new orthodonitist was also surprised at how "aggressive" my prior orthodontist (Dr. Chorak) was in my revisions (the filing the enamel between my teeth) which I now have quite large spaces between my top teeth. The new orthodonist also has to make a retainer and install a permanent retainer in about a year. These are all things Dr. Chorak would have had to do had I stayed in his practice and these services were paid to him in full. The new orthodonist was only charging $695 to do all the things that Dr. Chorak would have had to do and more (the extra 12 trays) but Dr. Chorak's office will not prorate this to the new orthodonist so I have to pay that additionally to the new Dr. I am also dissatisfied with the level of service from Dr. Chorak. He was very pleasant before I paid in full. After all monies were paid, I would have questions every time I went in for my new trays and would maybe get to see him for 2-3 minutes and I never felt like my questions were answered anymore than "Trust Invisialign" Terrible practice in my opinion and want others to be forewarned.
In order to sell you treatment, they overlook a lot of information that you only realized after treatment has started. Not helpful to make informed decision about starting orthodontic treatment. Clinic is hard to reach and very little patient follow-up after treatment starts. Not sure I would do it again.
The office staff, especially Lisa, can be very rude and make you loathe your next visit. Also, Dr. Chorak is not as affable as he should be. Sometimes he nice, other times he doesn’t even acknowledge you. A couple of the orthodontist assistant are nice. However, to be honesty, if I was not as far along in my treatment and already paid up, I would go somewhere else.
Wonderful staff and Dr Chorak is so nice. Your children will love going to his office
