He is unprofessional and a narsacis. Don't use him for any evaluation, he will lie on his initial report, for the love of money.

Unprofessional and very condescending, interesting given his own history of substance abuse problems.

Spent 5 minutes with and spent almost $1k with and didn't get to ask a single question regarding care. I was rushed out and treated unfairly. He is an insult to the profession and question his ability to care for patients. He had to look up the guidelines for major depression in the DSM5 which should be standard knowledge for this practice.

IF YOU WERE IN IOP AT FLORIDA RECOVERY CENTER FROM 2014-2020, I PROBABLY HAD ACCESS TO A TON OF YOUR PERSONAL HEALTH INFORMATION WITHOUT YOUR KNOWLEDGE OR CONSENT! This review in particular is about Laura Perez, who is licensed in South Carolina as a social worker but not in Florida. She works under Dr. Teitelbaum but does not have her own rating page. After I finished intensive outpatient therapy with Ms. Perez, she slowly started to invite me into her personal/private life. A few years later, I knew her entire family very well, was regularly invited to spend time with them, and was given "privileges" that patients/former patients should never be offered. For example, I was given an unofficial secret volunteer position at FRC where I assisted Ms. Perez with filing and other administrative duties, including countless amounts of current patients' PHI, and I was regularly privy to extensive gossip about my peers (both current and former IOP and PHP patients), as well as gossip/complaints about FRC leadership, that took place between Ms. Perez and her colleagues. She often asked me to perform public records searches or look up the social media profiles of patients/former patients in order to gain additional information about them that they had not chosen to share with her directly. Additionally, Ms. Perez regularly called upon me to provide services such as (mostly uncompensated - I believe she paid me around $75 once when I stayed with 2 of her kids for ~3 days while she and her husband were out of town, which is nowhere near an appropriate amount) babysitting, housesitting, and transportation for her children, who were minors at the time. I was manipulated and coerced for years into believing that I needed to remain close to Ms. Perez in order to maintain my recovery, which simply isn't true and never was. This manipulation lasted for close to a decade before I was finally able to work through this additional trauma and break ties with the toxic FRC environment once and for all. I would never trust this organization with the care of any of my loved ones. I have since reported her to the Social Work licensing board of South Carolina since she's not even licensed in Florida.

Although his description is listed as “psychiatrist,” it should be noted that this charlatan is not board certified in adult psychiatry or addiction psychiatry, according to his own UF faculty page. His reputation, like his blustering arrogance, is not related to evidence-based medicine. Instead, his position of power has allowed him to gaslight and abuse clients with significant mental illness. It is unfortunate that this person retains any ability to practice medicine.

Dr. Teitelbaum and the staff at Florida Recovery went above and beyond to help our family member get sober. They told us the TRUTH, they did not mislead or minimize the problem. When our family member struggled, they helped him to get back on track and for us to understand & deal with family issues. We chose FRC because of first hand knowledge of Dr. T and FRC saving the life of a colleague. I suspect my nephew would not be alive today without the help and care from Dr. Teitelbaum and the staff at Florida Recovery Center. It is difficult to understand many of the comments below. Our experience was 180 degrees from what others expressed.

This guy is an insult the profession. He lacks empathy and has a power hungry and pompous attitude . He should be held accountable for his lack of insight and horrendous reputation. He should not have a license and he seems impaired… he should resume a job as a maintenance lawn man He will learn that one must live by the golden rule.

Biography

Hello, my name is Scott Teitelbaum, MD, and I am the Pottash professor in psychiatry and neuroscience at the University of Florida College of Medicine. I serve as vice chair of the department of psychiatry, chief of the division of addiction medicine, medical director of the UF Health Florida Recovery Center and former fellowship director of UF's American Board of Preventive Medicine (ABPM) - addiction medicine fellowship.I was originally trained and board certified as a pediatrician. I always loved children, and as a father, I thought it was important to treat a patient's family the way I would want to be treated. I later completed fellowships in addiction medicine and child psychiatry at UF, switching focus because of my own journey in recovery and desire to help individuals and families who suffer with the effects of substance use disorders and co-occurring mental health conditions. I became medical director of the Florida Recovery Center in 2002, and since then, have been involved in the evaluation and/or treatment of more than 5,000 health care providers and other professionals from across the country. Through these efforts, the Florida Recovery Center has led the way nationally with its evidence-based treatment of the disease of addiction.I developed one of the first-ever accredited fellowships in addiction medicine, and my program has now trained more addiction medicine fellows than any other program nationwide. We are continuing research on substance biomarkers and using patient health assessments to identify where we can improve the quality of the treatment that we provide individuals. In 2016, I was awarded the Pottash Endowment, allowing for the creation of a research initiative that's focused on addiction medicine and the fight toward recovery. I have been honored on multiple occasions with the Exemplary Teacher Award for my guidance of medical students. I have received several other awards and honors, including being named the winner of the American Society of Addiction Medicine's Prestigious Annual Award in January 2018 in recognition of my outstanding contributions to the field and elected into the Conway Hunter Society. A national expert who has been consulted by the White House Office of National Drug Control and the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration, I am passionate about reducing stigma and advancing treatment for those suffering from the disease of addiction. In my free time, I enjoy spending time with my family, being outdoors and exercising.
