I want to share my experience with Dr. Miriam L. Rivera Irizarry at St. Peter Medical Group. I am a deaf patient, and I was not provided with a video interpreter during my visit. I waited a long time, but no interpreter was brought to help with communication. This made me feel ignored and disrespected.
When I tried to communicate, the doctor refused to write on paper with me. That made the situation worse and left me feeling very frustrated. Deaf patients need equal access to communication — not to be ignored or left without help.
Every deaf person has the right to clear communication under the ADA law. I should not have to struggle or wait just to understand my doctor. Communication access is very important for my health and safety.
I hope this office will take my complaint seriously and make changes to treat deaf patients with respect, provide interpreters on time, and make sure we receive equal care like everyone else.
Thank you for your attention to this matter.
