I am sincerely grateful for Dr. Charles Eifrig's outstanding and over-and-above care. I was at sea on a cruise ship when my vision in one eye suddenly started to change. The ship doctor did not have the equipment to diagnose me but was concerned it could become a retinal tear or detachment that could potentially lead to loss of sight. She told me to go to an emergency room as soon as we disembarked in Long Beach since she was not familiar with physicians in the area; nor was I. To avoid a lengthy ER visit, a friend's optometrist contacted Dr. Eifrig on my behalf. Per his instructions, I called Dr. Eifrig when we docked – on a Saturday - and he surmised my symptoms warranted further examination. A short time later, we met him at his closed office in Laguna Hills where he determined my condition was not an emergency but did require follow-up by another ophthalmologist on Monday in my hometown of Phoenix. Since I didn't have one, he researched contact information for a referral and then even texted me the next day – a Sunday - to say the Phoenix office would be calling me within the hour to set up a Monday morning appointment. His referral was also excellent. I have seen good physicians in my life, and have even volunteered among them. However, I have never encountered anyone like Dr. Eifrig. He not only provided great medical knowledge, continuity of care, reassuring empathy and patience with my abundant questions - but went so far out of his way for an out-of-town stranger whom he knew would not even become a patient. This is a talented physician who cares. (My staff rating pertains to their assistance the following week.)
