Shouldice

Very clean, both inside and outside. Beautiful grounds to stroll through after surgery. Food is top notch and plentiful. Staff are attentive, clear, and helpful. Building and furniture is dated and could do with some refreshing. Had hoped beds would be better than standard hospital mattress but no.

So far so good. I am waiting for elective surgery to start again. The staff has been really upfront, hope they repair a shoddy job done in London, Ontario.

I am 3 weeks post op from a recurrent inguinal hernia repair done by Dr. Ross. The first repair, done by Lancelot Tin in Feb 2017 failed in less than one year. The first surgery (Dr. Tin) resulted in very painful swollen and bruised testicles and a seroma. Recurrent hernias greatly increase the complexity of subsequent repair. I am very grateful to Dr. Ross and everyone at Shouldice hospital, his surgical skill resulted in minimal swelling and no bruising whatsoever. If you ever find yourself in need of hernia surgery, do yourself a favor and get it done at Shouldice. When I asked Dr. Ross why the previous surgery had failed so soon, he mentioned that the hernial sac was not touched and the mesh was just placed over top. So beware, if the surgeon is recommending a mesh repair, they may not be aware of or interested in the best surgical techniques. Dr. Ross has performed 13,000 hernia repairs and that kind of experience speaks for itself.
