A family doctor should not be this hard to reach after a C-section. I gave birth by C-section on May 15 at Rockyview General Hospital. Before leaving the hospital, I was instructed that I needed postpartum follow-up within 7 days. This was not a regular checkup. This was follow-up after surgery and childbirth. When my husband called my registered family doctor’s clinic to book the appointment, the earliest date they offered was May 29. That is about two weeks after delivery and outside the timeframe we were told to follow by the hospital and surgeon. My husband called more than once and explained clearly that this was a C-section postpartum follow-up and that the hospital requested it within 7 days. The clinic still did not accommodate an earlier appointment, did not make an exception, and did not provide a practical solution. The answer stayed the same: May 29 was the earliest available. What made this even more concerning is that this doctor had been following me before delivery and knew about my pregnancy. We were also told the doctor has a very full patient load and cannot fit patients in earlier. As a patient, that is not reassuring. If a family doctor is too overbooked to see a postpartum C-section patient within the requested timeframe, that creates a serious concern about access and continuity of care. This has also not been an isolated issue. Over the past couple of years, getting appointments with this clinic has often been extremely difficult. It is common to wait two weeks, half a month, or even close to a month just to see the family doctor. For routine matters, that is already frustrating. For postpartum care after surgery, it is unacceptable. Because my own registered family doctor’s clinic could not see me in time, we had to go to another clinic. We walked into another clinic and they welcomed us and understood the urgency. That experience showed us that timely care was possible, just not through the clinic where I was registered. The issue is not only one appointment. The issue is how patients are handled when they genuinely need timely care. A postpartum C-section follow-up should not be treated like a regular delayed booking. Based on this experience, I cannot recommend this clinic for families who need reliable access to their family doctor, especially during pregnancy, postpartum recovery, or any time-sensitive medical situation.

I just switched to a new family doctor here. I like the doctor but it is very difficult to make/change appointments. Messages do not get returned and it is extremely rare to get a live person on the phone. You almost need to walk in physically to communicate.
