Men’s Health: Why You Need to Stop Avoiding the Doctor

We know- most of you are healthy. Why make a trip to the doctor for no reason?

And on the flip side, if you know something isn’t perfect with your health, who wants to hear the bad news?

As the Mayo Clinic states, “Understanding health risks is one thing. Taking action to reduce your risks is another. Start by making healthy lifestyle choices. The impact might be greater than you’ll ever know.”

It’s true. The choices you make today affect tomorrow- for you, your loved ones and friends. Everyone is happier to have you around, and for a long time. Getting to the doctor on a regular basis will help you prevent an early death, to be blunt.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, (CDC), the top causes of death among men in the U.S are heart disease, cancer, unintentional injuries, respiratory disease and stroke. You can significantly lower your risk of dying from one of these by visiting your doctor at least once a year- and sooner, if you suspect something isn’t right.

As the experts say, don’t wait until something is seriously wrong to make a visit. Your doctor is also there to help prevent problems before they happen. Find out if you have high cholesterol, high blood pressure or diabetes. And follow your doctor’s suggestions for treatment.

Ask to have routine cancer screenings and other evaluations. Your doctor is your best ally towards a healthy, long life. It will pay to keep them at your side.
