If you are lucky enough to read reviews on the surgeon before going to the appointment, consider yourself blessed. Unfortunately I never did, I just went to whoever my primary referred me to. I wish I would’ve never went to Dr. Richardson. He neglected to fix my fracture and left me with ongoing arthritis and inflammation in my hand because the bone was never reset. He never even explain to me the positive benefit versus risks he just pretty much said it would have to be re-broken. I would rather have suffered six weeks with a correctly aligned bone and joint compared to having it misaligned for life and all the symptoms that come with that such as nerve sensitivity pain discomfort. You should watch his YouTube video, you can clearly see by his facial expressions that he is not a compassionate person. This person is only in it for the money and that’s all he cares about. He’s already made his millions of dollars and Prescott living in a gigantic house. Go see someone down and Phoenix or Flagstaff and get better care trust me. This guy is not your friend. He doesn’t care about treating the patient. Condescending is an understatement. He’s just careless. Staff was rude. Front desk rude. He had a attitude. Was not patient. What you have to understand is when people fracture their bones, Summit could be the first time they get this injury, that means they are in TRAUMA!!!!! You really need to be a compassionate and empathetic and patient person do you know how to respond to someone correctly and trauma rather than acting like a child and reflecting back any of the frustration or questioning they feel. A lot of people like myself are on trusting of hospitals and such because I feel they always over bill and charge you for everything. If I have a type of attitude I need a type of surgeon that actually has patients and can explain clearly the risk to reward benefit. I clearly told the surgeon I was a musician and guitar player and he still neglected to correct the alignment. I wish I would’ve sued him. I would’ve won but waited to long

Dr. Richardson and Granite Orthopedic neglected to fix my fracture of my 5th digit. I presented at 5 weeks after initial injury. My finger had ALL the signs to do a corrective reduction. It had a hyperextension deformity, rotation, and shortening. All of those factors according to best practice should ensure the surgeon to correct alignment and restore optimal function. If not, there can be significant impairment in function as I have experienced. Dr. Richardson advised me he could rebreak it or do osteotomy, but recommended against it and instead deferred his professional expertise to the surgeon I went to initially, which was a foot specialist in Prescott, AZ. He said, "I agree with Dr. Pifer's opinion and I think he's a qualified surgeon, and if he doesn't think you need surgery, I dont think you do either." Dr. Pifer did NO hand fellowship training. I've since seen at least 5+ other hand specialists and all have confirmed that I have about 10-15 degrees of rotation as well as a hyper extension deformity. They all have said if I would've seen them first they would've corrected it. Now I'm forced to live with it like this and or get a osteotomy, and Im very scared to do this as that means they have to completely cut me open and saw through my bone to realign and most have recommended against that as it could make it worse. I've since given up on my number one passion which is playing guitar and making music because of this malunion that bothers me both physically and mentally. I wrote a Google Review about his practice and whoever is in charge of their business went as far as calling my a liar and said I was not telling the truth. Completely disregarding my experience and not even offering an apology. I think he's a well-qualified and knowledgeable professional, but for whatever reason he sent me on my way and neglected to help me. Did not offer me a brace, or give me any tips to not make it worse, as proximal phalanx fractures often shift and require frequent follow up after the injury. I jsut wish I would have read these reviews sooner and taken this seriously. Its been more than a year since injury and it still bothers me everyday... as I said I have given up on playing guitar. He told me to follow up with the initial surgeon which was as a i said A FOOT SPECIALIST!!!!! How much more careless can you be and not have the guts to do the right thing and say "Okay it would probably be best for you to realign the finger and have the discomfort of being in a splint for 4 weeks compared to a LIFETIME of discomfort and problems, joint pain, arthritis, and lack of grip strenth and poor aesthetic function and look being crooked..." I dont understand it.

I am a patient of Dr. Richardson’s. I have extensive experience with hand injuries, starting at 14. The list includes:
Age 14 lost the top tips of 3 middle fingers on my right hand in a jointer.
Age 55 broke the hand bone for my right little finger.
Age 58 broke the hand bone for my left index finger when kicked by a horse.
Age 65 dropped a large pipe on my right ring finger, which exploded the end, already missing the tip and nail from accident 1 above.
Age 66 slipped while checking a gun to see if a round was in the chamber. It was, it fired, and went through the lower bone in my left index finger, shattering it in the middle.

At the YRMC emergency room, Dr. Richardson was called, and discussed repair of my finger, whether it would be amputated or repaired. I stated forcefully that I wanted to keep it. He said he’d do his best.
After waking up, I was relieved to be told it was still there. Later he told me that he had repaired my severed nerves, blood vessels, and what tendons that were left.

The recovery took many months, with several casts used to hold the parts in the correct place.
In a later surgery, he removed a piece of bone from my pelvis, and put it in the middle of the lower finger part. He had to fuse the lower joint, as the remaining piece was too damaged to support motion.
During this process, he told me that if I didn’t follow his instructions during the recovery, he’d remove the whole finger. I explained that I was following his instructions and that he was not going to do that. We made it pretty much through this phase without any issues, so I still have most of my left index finger.

It will take about 5 months for a full recovery. I’m convinced that his skill and knowledge is what saved my finger, and would highly recommend him for any hand injury.

You will be expected to follow his instructions, because they are designed to bring you back to the condition closest to that which existed before the injury.

Confused by these poor ratings. Dr. Richardson spent a lot of time with me, expedited surgery and did a great job on the surgery! Front desk gal is the most pleasant office staff I've met, although during another call to the office was answered by another gal who seemed "put out" by my call.

Had an operation! Not good outcome. Staff rude and uncaring AND have a real ATTITUDE. If I were to have done my due diligence I would have never gone to Dr. Richardson. Before operation never gave me a heads up about the potential problems. Problem is worse now then when I first saw this Dr. Be your own best advocate and do the research. I would never recommend this Dr. Left msgs to please call me and has not called about my issue nor does he care and that is VERY OBVIOUS. Not good! Now have to start all over!!!😡Oohrah! Semper Fi! Vets should stay clear of this practice!

He was with me less the one minute before he looked at his watch and he looked at it 3 times more during my scheduled appointment time. He was condescending, not at all interested my concerns and pushed off every question I had without a good explanation and acted as though his having a medical license was all I needed to know. It's not. I will not return and there's no way I would have him do my surgery. The woman at the front desk is a total pleasure. His medical assistant doesn't return call.

Condescending. Poor outcome after surgery. Medical assistant is really difficult. She must hate her job. Maybe it is his wife? If so, good together! Office staff pleasant. And i was actually rating his medical assistant...not them.
