Dr. Calise is rude and a butcher. Please choose a different doctor to take care of your loved ones. His methods cost my husband lmultiple amputation. He yelled at my husband and dismissed him during a difficult time...after losing his foot and left him in tears. Dr. Calise telling at my husband and telling him he would no longer take care of him was fir the best. We found a new and better podiatrist that respects my husband and he has gotten better care. Dr. Caluse is prone to angry tempertantrums and unconventional methods that don't work for the patients. I'm surprised no one has sued him and that he is still allowed to practice medicine and traumatize patients.

I will say first that my daughter has been a patient for 5 years or more. I loved Dr. Kaplan and Dr walshe was blunt and helpful and help us exasperate all options before surgery. I have 3 kids all of which were welcomed along with treats and candies. Upon being referred to Dr Calise I finally met the woman who says she is the administrator. Our kids were not welcome suddenly and dad didn't get to be a part because he had to wait outside. I let it go. So I went back again without my kids. Paid for a sitter. And invited my mother along as I wanted her to hear all the surgeon had to say. And dad because he didn't get to stay last time. This c u next Tuesday of a woman arrogantly and rudely made her surgeon look like an idiot by stating he would not be able to concentrate with us in the room. We are adults not children who are her primary care providers who have the right to fully understand and ask questions if we have any. We were with 3 other faculty members prior to having the administrator come in and no one stated we could not have more than 1 person. Our prior meeting Dr. Calise stated he could do the surgery with eyes closed drunk and one hand behind his back and I shouldn't worry. I brought my mom because we wanted her opinion of the Dr. I've never been treated this way for my daughter having more than one person to love her or met a more arrogant Dr., as well as the most rude, bitter administrator. So don't bother filing complaints with her. She is the main problem. If a surgeon can't handle 3 quiet respectful adults listening how am I going to be okay with him operating on my daughter. Needless to say after 5 years with the lovely nurses our relationship has ended. Also upon further research Dr calise has been sued for malpractice in the past Carrie's 29 insurance policies has 31 years of mostly bad reviews and little to no hospital privileges. So it is for the best. As you read this administrator, know I feel you are a horrible crappy sad woman who has no idea what my family has been through to get my baby girl where she is today and you have no right to yell like you did. Also get your staff on the same page because no one else enforces your so called rules and I've never seen anyone else kicked out of the office for having more than one person and I've seen that a lot. I hope you gain compassion and find a new job. Clearly you are in the wrong field.

Dr. Domenick A. Calise's response
We are sorry your appointment in our practice on this day was not consistent with your other excellent experiences with us. Total Foot and Ankle of Tampa Bay has been in existence since 1978, serving both Pasco and Hillsborough Counties and our focus is always on the comfort and well being of our patients. Dr. Calise has been in practice for 30 years and has double certification: He is board certified in both Basic Foot Surgery and Reconstructive Rearfoot and Ankle Surgery and is on staff at 4 hospitals and surgery centers in the Tampa Bay area. His past history includes his position as an Assistant Professor of Surgery and Director of Residency Education at the Ohio College of Podiatric Medicine. Dr. Calise is very concerned about all of his patients and always works hard to achieve the absolute best possible outcome. He wants his patients to be be well prepared for their surgery and to have a thorough understanding of what is to take place. Policies are put in place to ensure each patient gets the premium attention during their pre-op appointment and at every appointment with the doctor. Dr. Calise's work is exemplary and he has given life back to so many patients, in very complicated situations, by enabling them to walk again.

The practice administrator has been with Total Foot and Ankle for 21 years and she is well known for the outstanding care and respect she and her staff provide to all of our patients and to all people. It is unfortunate that your needs were not met in our practice and that we were not able to provide you or your daughter the quality service all of our patients deserve and receive.

Great doctor. GREAT surgeon. Really explain what he is doing and his thoughts about what's to come. You can tell he is doing the best for his patient and the best for their future after surgery/amputation.

Following my initial consultations with Dr. Valins, he referred me to Dr. Calise as surgery was required. From March to July Dr. Calise has been most professional and compassionate performing surgeries on both feet. He is knowledgeable and explains the why and wherefore of the procedures, and during the post-surgery office visits. I have full confidence in his ability and treatment. His assistant Bonnie is tops as a caring professional, and his surgical team at St. Joseph South Hospital in Riverview rate 10 of 10. I highly recommend Total Foot & Ankle of Tampa Bay, and Drs. Valins and Calise.

I met Dr. Calise a little over a year ago when I was lucky enough to have him called into the ER to perform emergency surgery on my foot. My foot was so bad it was questionable as to the outcome. He assured me he would do everything possible to save my heel and he did so. During this year, I have seen him numerous times. Most recently I had a very complicated surgery which required great expertise. Very few doctors perform this surgery yet Dr. Calise was very knowledgeable. During all this time, I feel he has been very professional and caring. He has always looked out for my best interests. I work with many physicians and Dr. Calise has gone well beyond the norm. I have found him to be a talented surgeon, and a compassionate, caring person. He and the staff at Total Foot and Ankle have been great! They have given me great hope for the future . I could not have found a better doctor! I would highly recommend Dr. Calise and his office.

I just left this dr's office after bringing a 75 year old woman with cerebral palsy and a fractured ankle. First this so called doctor entered the room no introduction and told her she had to have a cast. When questioned about it he became irritated because she was explaining she lived alone and a cast would be hard to walk with. He explained she couldn't walk on it. He then put a white sock on her but when he went to put cast on he caught her toenail and wouldn't listen to her trying to tell him. I told him and he had to remove it and start over. He kept saying we are losing it(cast) had nurse holding leg but could not get it on foot. Threw it in basin and stormed out. Coming back to tell her lay down and thru pillow on floor grabbed her leg and said relax. Due to c palsy she has spasms and can't straighten her knee it turns in. He left again and then came back lie on your stomach which she can't because she broke her back and is unable to lie on stomach for the last 15 years she tried but couldn't do it. At this point he got mad and said I'm done you won't do what I told you and stormed out. The nurses came in and gave her a boot and said they would have her see Dr. Kaplan on Friday. The nurses are the best . Dr. calize needs to be retrained on how to work with handicap people.
