I have seen a few different psychiatrists through the years. Each one was cold and condescending. Then I found Dr. Scagnelli!! I absolutely love him! He is kind, he listens ( & I have ADHD and can go in very long rants!! Lol), he knows the human psych. , and is overall a wonderful doctor. I highly recommend him! He treats children and teens as well and is wonderful with them too!

I have to consider myself a tough patient.
This is a difficult specialty they have.
Dr. Scagnelli is very interested in my personal well-being, and has demonstrated the ability to actually GET me to FOCUS on the issues I need to address...
NOT by telling me why... but leading ME to reveal these, with skillfully chosen questions.
A GOOD doctor.

I feel as if this doctor saved my life. Maybe other doctors could have done what he did, but Dr Scanelli is the doctor I saw when I was in deep depression. Suicide had become a real option and had I need received treatment I think I could be dead right now. His knowledge, and its application in a no nonsence manner is what got me out of my hole. I would recommend him to anyone with a mental disorder, without reservation.

I regularly see one of his licensed psychological associates. She has been remarkably accommodating and my monthly conversations with her are a pleasure. She is obviously a rare and compassionate individual who is genuinely interested in my path to mental health.

That said, the desk staff is unfailingly incompetent and dispenses with consumers as quickly as possible. I am never given a name of the individual with whom I speak. Rather, I am robotically recited policy, if encountering a crisis.

Recently, I was issued a prescription that I unintentionally ran through the wash. When I contacted the office, after spending ten minutes attempting to navigate the automated phone answering system, I was hastily greeted with a receptionist who told me that I would not be able to have a carbon-copied prescription flagged for cancellation and new one issued. I requested to speak with my therapist who had issued the original prescription and was told that she would just say the same thing. I am certain that my therapist would prefer that a receptionist was not issuing statements on her behalf and, my requests notwithstanding, I doubt the message will be passed on as promised.

As an elected member of the Board of Directors for National Alliance on Mental Illness, Rhode Island, I have seen the type of dangerous result that comes from withholding those with mental illness their medications. I have no problem requesting that the documented prescription number on the original written copy be flagged in any and all pharmacy databases, as I will assume full legal responsibility for any instance of the Rx turning up at any pharmacy to be filled. I did not fill it, sell it, or have any intention of abusing it. However, my psychological path to success seems less important to the employees fielding the communications than the unintended and dangerous consequences of their policy.

I am extremely nervous regarding my psychological stability and do not know how to rectify my current predicament. All because I did my laundry.

The front desk staff are not overly polite nor helpful... I can see where the comments of feeling like a 'number' come from. However, Dr. Scagnelli is very knowledgable... but you may not see him as he has four or five LNPs working under him and you may just get seen by one of them. Whoever sees you, your actual interaction with them will be very brief and limited. Mostly note-taking and documenting with very little empathy. In... Out... Send bill... Get on with it. At least that's what my experience was.

I was referred to Dr Scagnelli by my primary care doctor, to manage a condition that required a monthly prescription for a controlled substance He told me that he was not accustomed to some of the other medications I was on. He provided the needed prescription, but did not charge the insurance company because he didn't want to be responsible for my care. suggested that I see the VA for possible care, since I had been treated in a military environment before, and they might be able to provide better continuity of care. I agreed, and applied for acceptance into the VA system, but was denied because of change in policy due to budget cuts. I received the rejection letter the day after Christmas. A few days later, I discovered I was running out of medicine that needed to be prescribed by a psychiatrist. I called Dr Scagnelli's office, explained my problem, and asked his staff to see if Dr Scagneli would provide that prescripotion one more time to give me an opportunity to find a psychiatrist to take over my care. After several more calls, his secretary said he had the note, and she did not know what he was going to do and would not talk to him about it. A strong snowstorm hit on Friday and Dr Scagnelli was the only office I could find open. He still refused to write my prescription and I went the long weekend without that medication. I was told that because Dr Scagnelli did not apply for payment on my previous visit, he had no legal responsibility to care for me, so this was not a case of abandonment. It appears Dr Scagnelli was always only concerned about his own potential liability rather than treating me. He and his staff demonstrated a remarkable hard-hardheartedness in this situation.

Not sure if they have overhauled their office since these reviews or not, but as a new patient with only one visit behind me, I have to say these reviews made me extremely nervous about going. I maybe waited 10-15 min (not hours like I was afraid of) to be called back by the Doctor, he waited for me at the door and walked me back. He was professional, nice, and helpful. Obviously I can't comment on whether this treatment is something only new patients get or not. From my understanding a psychiatrist is a doctor and prescribes medicine, they're typically used in conjunction with a behavioral therapist (which I'm also seeing and would highly recommend). All in all time will tell but from what I've seen I like him.

It is a busy office because not a lot of doctors seem to understand ADHD,etc. I think I had fewer problems than other people here because I could come off-busy hours. Helped a lot with my neurological issues and overall health problems.
