Dr. Adkins seems caring and knowledgable, but his nurse is lacking. PLEASE read so this doesn't happen to you!
I saw Dr. Adkins on Thursday, March 16th under extreme distress. Dr. Adkins had ordered his nurse to schedule a CT scan at appointment with EAMC Radiology Department. On Friday, thinking that I had missed a phone call from EAMC, I contacted them. The scheduling department told me that if I had a copy of the order to fax it over to them. I did so. Later today, around 1:00, Dr. Adkins’ nurse contacted me and asked me, “What I thought that I was going to accomplish in contacting EAMC?” struck by the tone I told her why I had faxed the order over. She then told me that I more or less didn’t have the right to do that that she was handling everything. At first I told her that I was very sorry and that I didn’t mean to “hinder anything” She said, “Well, okay, just LET ME HANDLE IT”. And hung up. I waited a minute after a minute or two of thinking about her purpose of calling I realized that she had called me for the purpose of jumpping down my throat.

I called back to speak with Dr. Adkins, because I really needed help and I couldn’t afford for the nurse to not do what I needed. She got back on the phone with me and said that Dr. Adkins was not there. So, I asked her if she thought that calling to jump down a hurting patients throat made her feel like a big lady. I asked her if she didn’t remember Dr. Adkins telling her to “stop what she was doing and handle this” for me. I asked her if she didn’t remember Dr. Adkins agreeing with my husband and me that if I did go to the ER they would most likely tell me to see him anyway. Here it was 1:00 on a Friday afternoon and she was just getting around to making the appointment for me. Had she called that day as instructed the radiology department scheduling person said that they could have performed the test at 6am on Friday morning. She didn’t care!

Believe it or not, she told me AGAIN that I was hindering her ability to help me because she had EAMC scheduling on the other line and I was “still talking to her” thus “hindering” her doing her job. I just hung up at that point. I’m sorry; I thought that helping patients was her job. She called back again on my cell number, my husband answered and told her that she had no right to speak with me that way. He asked her if she was going to make the appointment for testing and she hung up.

I wrote to Dr. Adkins at his documented home address, but I have never heard anything from him or his office since Friday, March 16, 2016. It’s been over a month and I still have not gotten the test done because I assume that they have dropped me as a patient without a word or any kind of referral. When my husband and I were in the office that day, we could hear the nurse and other staff talking very unkindly about a gentleman patient, Mr. Bryant. They were complaining about too. Hopefully, this Mr. Bryant can get his test ran. I guess now all I can do is go to the ER and HOPE that someone will help me. You can contact me if you want. I’ll be at home or in the hospital. My husband or daughter can tell you when she called and why, but I don’t think that Dr. Adkins nurse is a good person. She DOES NOT belong in the medical profession.
