I went to see him in a very crucial time of my life. I was low and was referred to him by my doctor. Like many others, he didn’t help me at all and made me feel way worse every time I would go in his office. I would never recommend this man to anyone. It was a very awful experience.

I saw Dr. Beck in Ottawa starting some time in 1987 or 1988 along with my 5 year old son. My son saw Dr. Beck a few times, certainly less times than I. I was devastated when I needed Dr. Martin Cote-Beck in 2010 and he was gone away. I assumed he retired and I was so desperate for help to heal from the disintegration of a 17 year marriage I assumed would never break. Dr. Beck had always been there before even when years would pass between "sessions". I searched for anyone to help me heal. It took 6 months until I found a Psychologist to help. Another few years and money allowed me to see a great gift rather than a devastating loss. Sometimes I didn't like to hear the cold hard facts but I never argued. After all, he was the EXPERT I hired or paid by my government (same difference) and I was the "customer" or "patient" and never any suggestion of drugs whatsoever. Today in 2021 I am forever grateful that Dr. Martin Cote-Beck always knew how to fix my "mind" without polluting my body or brain. Only sometimes his words hurt my feelings which apparently needed to occur to fix my mind.

Dr. Cote-Beck got my medications properly sorted (after some rocky experiences being prescribed by GPs), and he counselled me through to a healing breakthrough that changed my life. He is trauma-informed, compassionate and effective. I am living with PTSD, ADHD and managed major depression. He helped me navigate an ongoing abuse and trauma issue, the management of which allowed me to finally make major strides in healing and happiness. I am forever grateful for his help.

Dr. Cote Beck was belittling and unsupportive. He often times would delve into tangents during our sessions leaving me without any space or time to share anything of value. Often times I left his sessions feeling vulnerable and belittled. He once answered a phone call with another client during our session who shared very intimate details about their personal lives, while I over heard. He then continued to debrief with me about his client during our session. It was completely unprofessional and worrying. I am in a financial position that doesn't allow me to seek a private psychologist and so I felt like this was my only option for treatment. After explaining explicitly that I work until 330pm everyday (mon-friday) and him agreeing that I show up as soon as I can after work. During our last session he welcomed me into his house, murmuring a large word that seemed to be his form of an insult and turned on his heel demanding that I leave my work early to make it to our sessions on time. When I said this wasn't possible because it was my job, he said, well I can't help you. I'm going to have to ask you to leave. Then lead the way outside, feeling very vulnerable and honestly a bit desperate, I apologized profusely and he said " I'm sorry" while smirking. I left his home in tears, feeling betrayed and very belittled. I am concerned for the harm that he could do in this community. I was referred to him through my family doctor who warned me that he was honest and a bit abrasive but he was beyond that description...i should have checked his reviews.I wouldn't recommend him to anyone. No helping professional should leave a client feeling that upset leaving his office. As stated previously, he makes me want to avoid seeking help from an psychologist in the future.

All he does is talk when it’s supposed to be my time and I never get a word in! I need the help and leave frustrated and feeling worse than when I went in.

I was a patient in Ottawa and found Dr Beck very helpful. He guided me through some tough times, equipping me with the tools to manage those moments when life can get stressful. I needed was some cognitive therapy and he really helped.

This is a shout out from the past! I knew Dr. Beck in his Ottawa office, and saw him frequently through a rough time of a new diagnosis. He is the only psychiatrist I have known to date who is a strong, capable and caring practitioner who manages meds AND counsels and does psychotherapy.
He manages meds with up to date approaches and is flexible to considering alternatives if initial approaches don't work. He imparted insights and "rules to obey in life" that are as helpful 20 years later as when they were when I was first hit over the head with them. Not always gentle, but the forcefulness was needed sometimes to go through the thick bones of my skull. Punctual, articulate and always knew my back story. I missed his presence and help when I had to leave the practice for a geographical move.

I found Dr. Cote Beck to be very professional and knowledgeable. He is forthright and, at the same time, compassionate. Counselling can be a difficult experience as patients have to be prepared to accept the fact that they may not always be comfortable at times and that they are a part of the problems they are experiencing in their relationships.
