I went to the dentist knowing that I had a cavity needing to be filled...sounds silly, but I had that intuition and my tooth fell like there was a small hole. Anyway, I went in concerned about that and they took x-rays, did a quick flossing (thanks for doing something I do regularly), and asked if I had concerns. I told the woman about my tooth and she did a little poke, and rendered it fine. I never did see the Dr. Kakkar. So, I was sent home under the notion that my tooth was fine. 4 months later after experiencing some sensitivity I went another dentist and they say that there is in fact a cavity, and after doing a little drilling told me that it was deeper than he had thought initially. And yes, I may be slightly biased as I just got back from the dentist that was helpful to me about 20 minutes ago. Don't allow yourself, or your insurance company to pay for a "cleaning" that's nothing more than a swish of fluoride and floss.

Dr.Sonu Kakar with Kids-Smiles in Fredericksburg, VA claims to be looking out for your child's best interest but the only thing we seem to discover is that he is looking out to see how much money you are going to pay out. We were told that Dr. Kakar could do the work on my 9yr.old's root canal & cavity work and was a great pediatric dentist. This couldn't be further from the truth! The cavity was taken care of first by Dr. Kakar himself & later we found out that cavity was not cleaned out entirely & a bacterial infection was present and the process needed to be started over again. The root canal was started by his office by a Dr. Mercado who didn't finish the job due to a lack of proper tools. With no antiseptic put on the partial work another serious bacterial infection was present. My son now has a lifelong fear of dentist thanks to Dr. Kakar. Through sedation dentistry we were able to fix his mistakes using other dentist and Endodontist. Do not take your children to Dr. Kakar!

I love Dr. Kakar. He is friendly and good to my kids. I feel that he goes above and beyond what other dentists would provide. My son had to have a tooth pulled last week and left the office 40 minutes later with a smile on his face. It doesn't get much better than that. Dr. Kakar cares about his patients and is always considerate of them (and their parents). His staff and courteous and respectful. I would recommend him to any one of my friends.

This is the worst dentist I have ever met! He FORCES kids to be sedated and won't let the parents in the room. My daughter had to have a crown. When her name was called I stood to work with her and was told I could not go back. I knew something was not right but I let her go. When she was in the room he strapped her down (LITERALLY) and put a device in her mouth to hold it open. I had a weird feeling so I walked back to the room despite the nurse telling me to wait outside. I could hear my child screaming. He was saying "I'm your friend I won't hurt you". I told him he is not her friend he is her dentist! He bound and sedated her so he wouldn't have to waste time trying to relax her. She is terrified of the dentist now and will never forget this horrific experience. She's only 8! I could go on and on about how he says that he's putting on a crown and does a simple filling instead. Not a big deal except that he gets pre-approval from insurance for the expensive procedure.

He did not even look at my daughters e-rays; he said he would not work on her unless she was sedated though she has had crowns and fillings for four visits without being sedated. The girl cleaning her teeth did not brush or floss her teeth she only smeared the fluoride treatment on. I have not seen the same people working here over the last three visits. Her last visit they said they did not sedate her but I received a bill for it, something the insurance does not cover. They did not file with second insurance or failed to make sure they payed up as well. I will never visit them again. I was very disappointed. I felt very rushed though the appointment even thought I got to the back about 1hour 10 minutes after her appointment time. They barely spent two minutes with my daughter and almost completely ignored me. I was there from 9:30 to 11:20. After the cleaning I had to wait an extended time to get the chart back to the front

Tried to charge me $120 for consultation fee! Finally, we agreed to do a dental cleaning for $18. Dr. Kakar said that she had 4 cavities, would need 2 silver crowns and 1 baby tooth pulled. They did an estimate for me that included sedation (~$400) - it came to ~$1100. I took her out front to get the bill.... AND they said that the original estimate of $1100 was going up to almost $2000!!!!!! Did I mention that they tried to charge me $82 for 'Behavior Management'?!? When I asked them about it, they said it was when the Dr. uses his 'special' skills to calm an anxious patient down by getting their mind on something else or changing the subject. Isn't that why I was spending $400 to get her sedated?!?!? They took that charge off. I wish I had read some of these reviews before I went there. BE AWARE OF OVERCHARGING and review your bill!!

In my opinion Dr Kakar is a very good PEDIATRIC DENTIST in Northern Virginia. My son was diagnosed with cavities and two other pediatric dentists ( one in Reston and another in Fairfax ) recommended treating my child by putting him to sleep. Thank God I went to Dr Kakar. He did all the dental work with LAUGHING GAS in 2 appointments. Above all, he takes my dental insurance. Please take your children to Dr Kakar. I am a very happy client.

My son was seen in the Fredericksburg office, I was very unhappy with the cleanliness of the office. The bathroom was very dirty, the tech had her dirty hands in my kids mouth with no gloves on, and the wait time was crazy, very overbooked, bbut loved Dr. Kakar, he did surgery and my sons self esteem was highly lifted afterwarsd, we will follow up with him, but hope he has a cleanier office, and a more professional staff, hes definitely work a second chance
